Am I required to be near my hazmat load the entire time during a 34 at a truckstop? Can I go do stuff away from the truck like a movie, etc. Hazmat is pallets of flammable 3 roofing glue under a tarp.

Am sure you can leave it.
What you can’t leave are explosives.

Bean Jr. and IluvCATS Thank this.

You can, but do you really want to in today's climate?

You mean watch a Hollywood movie in the politically correct climate of today? I agree.

how can someone legally log off duty when they are required to watch a load? Does the place have a place to park where some person is watching the loads and are responsible for those loads?

    IluvCATS Thanks this.

Criminals and terrorists know that you dont mess with someone who is away at the movies. That's just crossing the line.

You are not required to be in attendance on a hazmat load unless it is class 1, explosives. And maybe class 7 radioactive. I have had class 3 flammabe in a tanker and left it at a truckstop during a 34 more than once. But of course there are some truckstops I wouldn't want to leave even an empty truck long enough to take a shower.
