Hazmat Question

I read:

"usually 2 to 3 plastic gallon jugs"

and read:

2-3 jugs that are 1 gallon in volume and made of plastic.

 

Well it's actually only explosives 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 in all honesty.

 

Sorry but I don't care for LOHSARQ whatever it is. I go by the FMCSR's and the CFR 49 parts 100 to 177. In CFR 49 § 171.8 Definitions and Abbreviations under Hazardous substance a material becomes a hazardous substance when it listed in appendix A or table §172.101 and one package exceeds the reportable quantity. And like you state the RQ is 100lbs. So it's highly unlikely that it's hazardous substance and is hazardous material. Which is real easy then.

There's two types of hydrofluoic acid. One with 60% or more and the other with less than 60%. All your class information, special provisions, and any info you're required to know is right there in table §172.101. Again if you check the required law you'll always be safe. It's good that the OP brought this to the group.

 

How are placards going to help the guy behind him?

 

Call your local fire department with the ID number and they will tell you jf and what you can do. This list can not even agree on death or taxes.

 

That is how I read it as well.
However, I thought that some clarification might be in order as others might not read it the same way.

 

Sigh - "List of hazardous substances and reportable quantities" - the exact section you're talking about.

 

Ok no problem. It's referenced all the time as table 1 in §172.101 of the CFR49 parts 100 to 177.
