    I was a Bad,Bad,Bad Boy .....

When i Pulled a Van many moons ago, i Loaded a Trailer of Supersacks in Claymont Delaware going to Chicago.

It was a Hazmat Load Placarded Oxidizer. (The Yellow Placard)

Not Only did i Smoke the Entire Trip........I Drove Through ALL 3 Tunnels on the PA turnpike (I removed the Placards outside of Philly cause I wasnt Going to inconvenience Myself By Going Around)

    Shame On Me!:booty:

The way I understand it, your not supposed to smoke around ANY placarded vehicle. According to my NV CDL manual.

HOWEVER, as with MOST things nowadays. It's probably half Government, half anti-smoking Nazis. (NO I don't smoke. And haven't for over 30 years now).

And frankly, most companies just don't want the hassle of 1 person being "offended" and creating a stink. So they just pretend they care about your health and "WA-LA" No smoking around ANYTHING. Problem solved.

I defy you to set my Sulfuric on fire. Let me SEE it please.

D.O.T says no to what the driver said above (Explosives, Oxidizers & Flammables). I would assume companies can make their own additional rules?

Hmmm doesn't make any sense to have a no smoking policy and not have positive air shutoff in the truck. If smoking might cause an issue because of possible vapors then the trucks should be equipped to shut down in a runaway situation.

I've seen other drivers at my company smoking while transporting UN 1202 (Clear/Dyed Diesel).

I choose to park the truck, get outside and have a cigarette away from the truck. But since we average 6-10 calls per day, there's plenty of time to get outside and have one.

For the guys who haul hazmat tankers on long trips, I can't imagine they'd be stopping every 60 miles.

Try it and find out. And when you go thru a scale, be sure to have a cigarette hanging out of your kisser. See how that goes. Don't bother stopping for railroad crossings either.
