In a weird predicament that I can't find the answer on.
-Have Hazmat CDL.
-Did TSA background check for hazmat in September.
-Have TWIC card renewed in July.
-Run fuel so our trucks don't move without placards.
-Moving to different state.
Moving to a state that issues 4 year CDL's. I've read that if your TSA hazmat background check doesn't expire before your new license expires you don't have to wait on a new TSA check and go through fingerprinting etc. New state CDL will expire in November 2029, TSA check expires September 2030. Since it's federal it is suppose to be good?
But then I've also read that everytime you move states it's a new TSA check, fingerprinting, etc. when a license is issued.
The problem here is the state I'm moving to does all their licensing through an appointment system that is backlogged for 3-4 weeks. That means if my preemptive TSA renewal doesn't work and I have to to a TSA check and fingerprinting I'll be waiting for a month before I can work again since they require you to surrender your out of state CDL unless someone knows otherwise. Assuming I have to return to have the license issued again with the Hazmat endorsement. New state is ID.
Anyone know what is up? I've read TSA is still doing background checks during the shutdown so that shouldn't be an issue. It only took 20 hours for my TSA check to come back since I just did the TWIC in July. It's just the licensing office takes a few weeks to get another appointment.
I've seen some reddit posts saying that you'll have a temporary paper license issued with a temporary hazmat endorsement so you can work while waiting. Then other people say you'll get a paper temporary until the state mails a plastic card with the X endorsement but the paper license won't be good for hazmat.
Don't want to spend a month out of work or get laid off because of waiting for bureaucratic bull ####.
Hazmat TSA background check and moving.
