hazmat

IMHO hazmat is a must have..all P/D companies require it..hauling tankers is the way to make some money..yes it can be a pain..but with the right company you will do very well.

Hell you can work local..be home everynight and weekends and still be guaranteed $1000/week..now granted those jobs are hard to find but they are out there.

 

Majority of company's want you to get it because they know you have to go through the super deep background check. Get it and if you don't wanna haul hazmat just refuse the run....

Hauling Haz-Mat is no big deal. Most of them that companies haul you look at and go "Thats Haz-Mat?" It will make you more desirable to the company. It's the TWIC, A pain to get but up's you chances of getting hired or being able to switch companies. I have both and have 5 different companies fight to get me on there trucks.

 

Con-Way freight which is the LTL side of Con-Way you do orientation at your terminal. All it is watching a stack of videos and you still get paid your hourly wage. When I was with them I was in the Southern region and we would get flown out to Dallas for a more in Depth orientation after 9 months. Con - Way truck load is out of Springfield.
I was with them for 7 months I think I pulled maybe 3 partial HAZMAT loads. Like these guys said HAZMAT only makes you more marketable

 

1. Never knew a company to pay more for hauling a Haz-Mat load and I've worked for some good ones. 2. The insurance to have Haz-Mat authority is lots of $. Last I heard co must carry $5,000,000 liability and if you think the premium is cheap check it out. 3. I told the last co I worked for when the BS about the endorsement on the CDL came out and states started charging more I wasn't getting the endorsement Co President said that's a good idea since we are dropping our Haz-Mat Authority. 4. If a company wants the Haz-Mat endorsement than they should pay for it. JMO

 

Does anyone know for sure, do motor carriers charge customers more for moving a Haz-Mat vs. a non Haz-Mat load?
If so, how much more? anyone?

 

Hmm more and more of the jokers are asking for Haz-mat. Since I'm moving anyway I COULD go out for a HZMT endoresement. But why pull for an LTL and MAYBE get a Hazmat load, when, with a clean licence and record, I could pull fuel/home heating oil and be home every night?

Frankly for the grief and agrivation, I might just go back into limo work.

 

The last company I worked for before retirement required Haz-Mat. In 8 plus years with them, I think I maybe hauled 4-5 loads that required placards. I did haul some that had less than 1000 pounds of hazardous material that didn't require placards but I still needed the Haz-Mat to haul them. Most of those were disposable lighters, charcoal starter, etc.

IMO, a Haz-Mat endorsement just makes you more hireable and more flexible when it comes to haulng frieght.
