HazMet and DMV

    I am hoping that someone can help me out. My boyfriend got his license here in California and is now out on the road training. Before he left, he took his test at DMV for his HazMet endorsement. He then went to TSA for the fingerprinting/background check. I just got the letter today from TSA saying that he passed, and that they would notify the state that he may obtain or renew his HME.

    My question is, do I need to take this letter to DMV and do anything? Or does TSA communicate with DMV and the license will come in the mail? His temporary paper license expires in July, and I expect him to come home around the beginning of July. I would like to take care of this for him, but I also don't want to deal with DMV unless I have to. Does this make any sense?

    NO, once your boyfriend has been cleared thru the background check, it will be entered into the computer system they (DMV or Sec. of State) so you don't need it. However, he most likely will have to go in and have the HM added to his license.

    When I renewed mine, I was not allowed to take the endorsement test until AFTER I was cleared by the TSA back check. Once my back check was complete, I got that same stupid letter, and went to my Sec of State, and got a new photo taken,paid my update fee, and took the HM test.

    When you get your letter of clearance from Homeland Security, then you go get your license updated with the endorsement.

    When I first got mine 6 years ago, they gave you the endorsement BEFORE you were cleared, and if they found anything you were required to surrender the endorsement promptly. That's not done anymore. Now nothing happens until AFTER you are cleared. Then and only THEN can you go get you license updated.

    His real license came today. Now I am hoping to connect with him at some point to get it to him. One more question. I know that in addition to the hazmet, he passed the tests for double/triples and tankers. It appears that only one endorsement is on his license, TX. What does TX stand for?

    Tx covers everything
    T = tankers & doubles
    X = hazmat

    He's good to go

    So that means that DMV issued his haz met endorsement before he received TSA approval? I just got the letter from TSA yesterday and the license today.

    dmv probaly got the approval right when he was clear it does not take long to clear. The process of mailing out the letters takes more time they have to be printed folded put in envelopes and then postage marked on it then sorted and then go to the post office for yet alot more sorting.

    TSA may have limited access to the dmv license area they may be able to add the clearance of background check to the site.

    Otherwise they could of allways faxed it or emailed it to their contact at dmv.

    I do not know how long it takes for the dmv to get the clearance because while all of my classmates were going to get the permit on the 3rd day of school I went to TSA for the fingerprinting I had my permit all endorsements except the hazmat before I started school I do not belive in waiting to get something done that needs to done. Then while I was waiting to get into the trucks I got my hazmat approval letter. After I got tested out a couple of weeks later I went and got the paper license and once the hard plastic came in the mail the tx was on it.
    For some reason they never put the hazmat on the paper license.
    actually the T is for double and tripples an the X is for tank and hazmat combo. Atleast that is what it states on my license and book.
