He needs to study more. Seriously at least 10 or 15 hours each segment.
This site has the practice tests but it's quite limited. Have him put in the time studying then use this sites tests to quiz him. If he can't pull a steady 90% when you quiz him he's not ready.

He's done fine on the practice tests. It's frustrating for me because I always help him when he needs it but with this I can't help him more than I have already

He's either not studying enough or his brain has information overload. Do one endorsement at a time if that's what it takes. The other thing is, if your DMV uses the touch screen computers like we have in Fl, they allow you to skip a question. Tell him to skip the questions he's not 100% sure about..they don't disappear but get put at the end.

It's paper here. Maybe he needs to sit and do them one at a time on separate days. He did complain about the length of time he had to sit there, it's taken him 90 minutes each time. He is hard to get focused on things so maybe he's getting frustrated or losing focus or something. He reads slowly so I tried talking him into raking an oral exam.

Yeah it's not the ACT or SAT, common sense should easily get you through it...

Step back from it and take a couple days off from it... Completely... No studying or anything... You pick the one, and only one, that you think he knows the best.

Study for only that one and then take the test.

He passes one, or retests and passes it and then he has the ball rolling... Then do the next one.... Repeat. Don't move on until he passes one rest.

Also, maybe approach it from the other way.

Meaning, if the wording is confusing him then read the three answers and eliminate the wrong answers... Some are very obviously not the right choice... Then select from the other two or sometimes you can eliminate two and get the right answer without knowing the right answer because he eliminated the wrong two.

As mentioned above, he only needs so many right to pass so try to leave the hardest ones to last and he may not need to answer it at all.

Lastly, if he's taking the practice tests here, and I hear they are almost word for word the same or similar, then he knows the information and is hitting a mental block or fear of testing.

So, one step at a time
And, one test at a time

Keep us posted as there may be other suggestions too and let him know we are all cheering him on...

He decided he will retest in 3 weeks and keep studying until then. They actually were installing the computer testing system while he was there! I assured him he will get there. He did agree to take them one at a time. He said his head spins by the end of taking them so maybe he's just overloaded.

    Like that poor old joke...

Q: How does one eat an elephant?
A: One bite at a time.

I would read the test and only the test I am taking then go in and take the test.

Study beforehand, but go about an hour early and just read the section he is taking the test on..

    Take one at a time.

Usually two of the answers are wrong, then read the question and do not double guess at your answers.
