Headache rack

    Ok looked around cant really find a good answer, tried looking they fmcsa but that's a joke, here is my question, am I supposed to have one on or not? Trailer does not have a headboard. Thanks

    Regulations do not require you to have a headache rack anymore.

    yes, it's good measure for safety to a certain point, but if you secure properly then you shouldn't need it, and besides a piece of Alumnium isn't going to stop a coil or steel pipe from coming into your cab anyways. I prefer it just for the added storage, it's very convienent.

    But the answer is NO, not required.

    There is no specific rule number anymore for it as they removed the rule that it WAS required.

    now there are only rules for frontend structures if the cargo is in CONTACT with it. Which means you are using it as part of your securement.

    No headache rack or headboard needed. If not running either you need extra securement on the load. I do not run one and just put an extra strap or chain in the 1st 4 ft of the load. Headboard or racks good for storage but i've seen plenty of loads go right through and over them. Gives to many drivers a good feeling and makes em lazy on there securement.
