If you haul pipe, certain companies may reject loading you without one or a bulkhead on the trailer.
SHC and dirtyrabbit Thank this. -
That's dumb, I used to haul alot of drill steel and theres no way in hell a rack is stopping that stuff if it breaks loose, just do your job and secure and check your freight and you wont have any troubles...
Mommas_money_maker Thanks this. -
ColaradoGreen hit the button on why this company truck has one on it now. A couple of our customers said No when we rolled in and had removed the headboards from the trailers. And the storage factor has me happy, happy, happy, on these racks we are running. It's your choice to go with or without, Good Luck!
DirtyRabbit out. -
If you pull the same trailer all the time, and only carry 10 chain and binders, 10 straps, 2 lumber and 1 steel tarp...it's easier to get by without one. But if you're carrying dunnage, vee boards, 2 cases of bungees, coil racks, clevis', hooks (T and J and slip) 4 or more big tarps, and not married to the same trailer...I'm like DirtyRabbit and storage space is at a premium.

The feds dropped the bulkhead/headrack requirement several years ago. If you choose to not have one on your truck or trailer and the shipper requires a headrack or bulkhead, you can sometimes get by if you can build one using dunnage and chains. I agree that having one or the other is great to keep your securement equipment stored and out of the way.
