When I worked there it was not uncommon for Jeff England to look out his corner office with binoculars. If he saw you leave the yard in a dirty truck he would call dispatch and have you come back and get it washed.

Good to know he cares....sucks to know he babysits drivers from his office.

    What did Jim Croce say?

"Well, I should be sittin in an air conditioned office in a swivel chair
Talkin some trash to the secretaries
Sayin, hey now mama, come on over here.
Instead, Im stuck here rubbin these fenders with a rag
And walkin home in soggy old shoes
With them steadily depressin, low down mind messin
Workin at the car wash blues"

If he cares that much, why not go walk the lot?

He goes out in the lot all the time, always has a friendly word to his employees. It's not uncommon to see him getting in his truck and taking a load. He has been known to go to shippers drivers complain about, and if the complaint is legit, he will take care of it. Jeff and Jay are good people to work for.

He is not the only boss with a CDL either. One night I was waiting for a cheese load up in Logan. Was supposed to be a drop and hook but it wasn't ready and I had been there for two hours. Pretty soon a Pride truck pulls up and parks in the door next to me. The driver is wearing a long sleeve shirt and tie. A bit unusual for a driver. It's the head of Operations. He tells me that I have a new load coming and he is taking mine. Evidently there had been a lot of complaints about late loads there. Sure enough I am outta there. Next time I sW him I asked and he said it was another three hours and they were surprised to see him there. Worked for me.

    Testify! That is so true.
We can have 40 hr/week or so local jobs but only for a big cut in pay.
One alternative however is physical labor jobs. Mclane for instance is about $65k/year and 50 hours per week - decent time at home but hard labor.

    Thanks for the help Snowshoes.
    I just applied for Pride.

I drive for Swift and had a major safety issue with my truck. For the past 3 months I have been telling them something is wrong with my steering mechanics and truck pulls to the right in an unsafe manner.
They refused to send it to a dealer or properly resolve the problem.
Last night I was driving and the entire steering column collapsed in my lap as I was switching lanes.
I could move the steering wheel up and down and telescope it in and out without even pressing down on the column lock pedal. I didn't crash, but I went into the shoulder and almost into the dirt.
I cleaned out my truck and am looking for a safer company. Pride looks like a good move.

Father Luke, Knucklehead and Snowshoes Thank this.

We have a Freightliner mechanic that comes in I think once a week to work in our shop, plus, freightliner is just up the road as well as a Pete dealership. The maintenance dept is fantastic.
