The old and the crippled and not to mention the lazy pull reefers. And I'm awful glad that they do without their work I would not be able to go buy groceries. But before I pull a reefer I would rather see my sister in a whorehouse. No old self respecting steel hauler would retire to a refer. Like I say if you can eat it I won't haul it.

Will hit another good week 2500 miles. Ran down to the the Carolinas. Brought a load of pipe back to Louisville. Then picked up a load for central states in Michigan city. Darn near got ran over by a door swinger in Tennessee. Luckily I was watching and see him flying through the parking lot and was able to run out of the way in time. He slammed on his brakes and stopped and was apologizing. I asked him what was so important that he has to fly through the parking lot at that speed. He apologized again but could answer my question.
Walking through a truckstop is like being on a recon patrol. Always looking to be ambushed and attacked not to mention ran over. LOL maybe that's why I'm old and never been robbed or ran over yet. LOL
I wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a happy new years.
Drive safe have a great holiday and enjoy the ride.

An open mind and great attitude will get you through most of it. Good luck

A page or two back on this thread (i think) someone posted a good list. Sleeping bag, pillow and work clothes enough for at least 7days plus steel toed boots would be a minimum.

Congrats on getting the opportunity to go to Maverick Orientation blueknightnc14! I just went through the orientation and load securement training, am in final week with my Driving Instructor....with all of this fresh in my mind, I agree whole-heartedly with Seawheeler, open mind & great attitude is PARAMOUNT. Also, read back a few pages on this thread, there is some great advice about what you will soon be experiencing. Most importantly understand this, there are eyes and ears on you at almost all times. You are being observed from the start (not to say they are spying or imposing- or even looking for a reason to boot you out). This is done very professionally, and it is done for a very good reason. Work hard, try hard, study hard, and perform to your best ability...and be a great person to be around. That is my advice. You will do fine. Good luck, heck, I may even see you out there as I will be in NLR next Tuesday or Wednesday to complete my training (more likely than not...)

    Hi Sarge & Sewerman!!

Since I took this week off, my year at Maverick is finished. I thought I would show what I made. I do not have any issues doing this since it is pretty well published what a driver at Maverick makes every step of the way.
I went solo in my truck in March of 2010. So I am just about to complete my second year come March of 2012.
    Miles Driven 108,069 Pay 45,051.59
    Load Pay 390.00
    Tarp Pay 1,610.00
    Stop Off Pay 240.00
    Mechanical Breakdown 88.00
    Detention Pay 252.00
    Miscellaneous Pay 30.00
    Short Mile Pay 173.72
    Weekend Pay 149.94
    Vacation 600.00
    Fuel Bonus 503.21
    Referral Bonus 1,000.00
Gross Pay 50,088.36 (.46348 per mile)
I also had two deaths in the family in which I had to take time off this year.
My fuel bonus would have been higher If I had not been in 100 deg weather for an extended period of time this year with my o7...ie I had to idle.

The reason I choose to post this is that I remember back to when I was looking to get into trucking and there were those saying that you could not make a living doing this.
Am I going to get rich, no. But I have not missed a payment on anything and I am still living in my house. Many across this country have lost everything, and I have lost nothing.
I am thankful for trucking and this site for allowing me to do my due diligence and find an excellent company and not one of the ones that are out to do the drivers in.
I mostly thank God, for without him, none of this would have been possible.
Everything fell into place and I am neither that lucky or that smart.....lol....I owe it all to him.

When March rolls around, I will be up to .43 a mile and I will get another weeks vacation. At least that is the way I understand it.
