I did load from Cali to wash so went through Portland twice. Lots of hills and I was heavy and got super grumpy. Kinda like Atlanta but a lot of blind curves and blackout spots so take it a bit cautiously if your near 80k. Expect the worse out of local traffic as it is aggressive driving. It was summer when I went.

It's a very scenic drive you should enjoy it. As mentioned take it easy on the hills.

If water starts coming in the doors, you have either gone too far west or north.

Yes,have the weight mile permit/ think you have to have it to event buy fuel,6 snow chains, don't speed, trust me,55 mph in the whole state.Portland is very easy to navigate in,except rush hour. They closed i5 there, due to people not liking Trump! What's wrong with America? Anyway, you have i5,205,84 highway and Marine drive is great to avoid traffic!

If you are on paper logs make sure you have your I's dotted and tees crossed !
I got a level 1 there a couple months ago and they put a gauge to my securement chains , went thru my logs with a fine tooth comb and called the shipper in penn to see when I picked up the machine I had on .
The were polite and friendly but they know what to look for !

Oregon's chain law applies to all highways throughout the state. When you drive in winter conditions, you may see signs telling you to carry chains or traction tires and when you are required to use them. In some areas, lighted message signs also will advise you about chaining up. Traction tires may be used in place of chains on vehicles rated at 10,000 pounds gross vehicle weight or less and that are not towing or being towed.

I have driven in Portland when the only reason I was able to pull from the dock was the fact I had chains.

Portland also gets some really nasty freezing rain.

Stop at Jubitz truck stop in Portland Oregon. They have a real movie theater in the truck stop $5 to see a movie. They also have jacuzzi tubes for drivers if you want in seat of shower but they are like $5 extra. If you got extra time you can hope on the city buses and ride downtown or the have Drag races and you can take the bus then the train to race tracks.

You got some amazing views going down Cabbage hill and along the Columbia River into Portland.
If you stop at the Casino at the bottom of Cabbage hill they also have movie theaters and will pickup up at the truck stop
