After 5 days here, got everything completed. Permit, required simulator time, pad practice, driving in the industrial area for shifting and turns. Just waiting for an instructor now. Lots of students, not lots of instructors in right now lol. Only be a few days. Overall impression.... I think I made the right decision. This place is very professional. They expect a lot out of you, but they are here to help. So far everyone is very supportive of you and no one has failed to go out of their way to help when asked. They also expect you to take the initiative and show them you are willing to work to join this organizatiion. They don't make it too easy on you, but they give you all the tools you need to succeed. It's up to you if you use them or not.

Heading down to Branson tonight to reward myself for making everything happen here. I will be at the Campus Inn for a little longer, I am Joe Waller. If you see me, stop by and introduce yourself. If you have any questions about what I have been through so far, ask me. I'll try to help, or find someone who can. They have been doing this for a long time, and all these people can see who really wants to work for this and put in the extra effort. They won't waste their time on you, if you try to bs your way through or lie to them about anything in your past. The shuttle picks you up at the Greyhound, and it can sure drop you off there as well. I am sure it dissapoints them to have to send someone packing, but believe me, there's a whole line waiting to take your place and earn an opportunity here. Go where they tell you, when they tell you and you will be amazed at the results.

I'm in town today... Trailer repair while on our way to Cali...

    Branson as a reward?

Ugh, no way you'll catch me within 10 miles of that place when I got some free time!:biggrin_25523: it's tourist season! It's gonna be bad enough dealing with them while trying to get a table tonight at Lambert's for dinner.

    jmwaller,

I will be retiring from the Navy in 8-10 months and strongly considering OTR. Prime was recommended by a shipmate. Curious as to where you stay (sleep) while in their training? Also, where do you get meals? Can I drive my car (coming from Florida)? Will have many more questions if you don't mind me picking you brain. Thanks.

Yes you can drive. While in orientation you stay in there hotel which is provided to you for free. Since your in the Military you can get a CDL for free through the military using your T/A. I am about to EAS out of the Corp and am taking troops to truckers out here in 29 Palms. If you did that you would have a CDL and you could get right to the training part and not have to go out for a month with an instructor and have to test out and get your CDL there. Where are you stationed at? I know they have this course in lejune, pendlton and 29. I know you can get TAD orders if your in Yuma to go to it and I would imagine the same if your in Cherry point and Miramar or SD

Hey slick501. I am stuck at campus inn. It's not bad at all, just getting anxious to go out and train. I am in 237 if you wanna stop by and introduce yourself. I have made the decision to go ahead and lease. I was really on the fence about it, but my finances are stable, my kids are grown, my house is paid for, so I think I'll be able to have some fun with it. But any advice either way is always welcome and appreciated. I saw the new Petes they are giving company drivers. Way tooooo small for me, and no passenger seats. My wife will want to accompany me on occasion...don't think she'd want to sit on a cooler lol.

I'd suggest you learn to drive the truck first on the company side. Its real easy to get in over your head too fast. Its also very easy to decide to switch to the lease side once you're ready.
