Orientation began this morning at 7am. There were about 12 people in our class. We spent the first part of the morning watching a few videos, and filling out paperwork. Then we went straight into doing our DOT physicals, physical standards test, drug screen, and road test. It was a busy afternoon!

For those of you that are curious about the physical standards test, I wrote down everything today so I could give you the scoop here:

    First of all, there are two different physical standards tests, one for dedicated drivers and another for OTR drivers. The dedicated drivers test demands more strength and stamina for drivers doing certain dedicated accounts that will be unloading trailers. The OTR driver test doesn't require as much strength. Here's the two tests;

    Dedicated test

    Lift 70 lbs (0 to 50in)
70lb walk (53 ft x 3) You will carry 70lbs down a hallway and back three times
    pull 200lb one time
    push 100lb one time
24in climb one time (similiar to crawling up into the back of your trailer)
squat test 44in. 5 steps (duck walk)

    OTR test

    Lift 48lb ( 0 to 50in)
48lb walk (53 ft x 1) walk down hallway with weight one time
    pull 120lb one time
    push 50lb one time
    24in climb one time
    squat test 44in. x 5 steps

    ***Maximum two attempts each test***

Then we did the road test, which was easy. I went with a driver that had an automatic truck, and he was extremely nice. I drove around town, and then had to back the trailer in between two trailers at the terminal. No problem.

A couple of drivers got sent home today. One of them had blood pressure problems and I'm not sure what went wrong with the other driver.

It was a good day. I will update you with more news tomorrow!

:smt082 :smt031 We are now part of the USxpress family! :toothy7:Yippeeee!!! :smt081

We are very happy tonight. After a long day of wondering if we were gonna make the cut, we finally found out this evening. We were handed the keys to a new Cascadia that has plastic on the seats! Wow. Oh, and it's automatic :biggrin_25514: Thank you Lord, this is such a huge blessing for us!

Our overall experience with Tunnel Hill has been great. Baymont Inn was quiet and clean, and just a couple of miles down the interstate from the terminal. And just a couple of miles from the terminal is our favorite.... Cracker Barrell!!! Yep, that's where we had our celebration dinner. There's nothing better than their biscuits and gravy! :yes2557:

The USxpress service center is impressive! A very nice facility with large comfortable, rocking chairs to sit in during orientation. All of the orientation employees were friendly and helpful, which made orientation less intimidating. We were fed lunch both days, today it was all you can eat CiCi's pizza with soda. Good stuff!

We are back at the hotel tonight while the shop is putting in our invertor and CB. We are too pooped to sit at the terminal tonight and wait for the truck, so we will pick up our truck in the morning and move our stuff in.

We are back at the Baymont Inn, they gave us a discount and charged us only $35 for the room tonight.

    Life is Good :happy11:

Welcome back! I didn't count to see how many trucks are sitting at Tunnel Hill, but I did notice a couple of Petes that looked new!
