All it does mostly is tell a driver what he already knows if he can DRIVE..that he has passed you. The only REAL reason for it is if the guy has an idiot 4wheeler three feet off his DOT bumper and a line of 16 cars behind that, to let him know the earliest it'll be safe to finish passing the 62 mph truck in his 63mph truck after the 10 minutes he's spent trying.
Maybe to let someone go ahead and get over to pass when you're in the left lane just behind him. For me, those are about the only two reasons to do it or that it's actually appreciated. blinky blinky back or not.

I actually have left my lights on before if I think some knot head will run into me while I sleep. But most of the time not.

Come on driver stop crying, buy your self a curtain, and sleep tight. Every driver can have as much light as he think is needed for a safe back up. If he have a bad vision or something he can hit your truck with his nose, while backing in. Im cool with everything as long as no one hits my truck or trailer. But even if you sit at your steering wheel all night long and geting pissed at peoople who back in to spot acros from you, remember you are not driving now and its ok to close your eyes. But it sounds like you just sit there look at those headlight and think how much they blind you and geting pissed because you want to get pissed at somebody. Thats psychological issue of your own. Go to some good church and ask them to pray for you. Thats gona help more than any doctors or drugs.

Thats why i have crazy led lights on my side fairings. And i light my way up when backing in, works great even in complete darkness and when backing next to s..upid ..uck with head lights on while sleeping. I use all my lights i make it day all around me when backing in. Only after i pull the parking brakes, all lights will be shut, and engine off in 5 to 30 minutes, depends when my oil temp reaches below water boiling temp. Peopple whos truck is not equipped with curtains should make them from blankets or something. What are you gona do if you'll have to sleep during day, and drive at night. It is more important for driver in motion to have more comfort than parked driver

awful lot of whiny ### pansys in this thread...
Trucks have curtains... close them. It's not an overly hard concept. Many trucks do not have the option to trunk off the head lights now.
Holy crap you "guys" whine more then any other group of people.roadpilot81, cnsper, Dumdriver and 3 others Thank this. -
That's why I use curtains...
Both at home and in the truck...
LOL

I had a guy pounding on my door one night and as I bolted out of the curtains I could hear him yelling
TURN OFF YOUR HEADLIGHTS NUMBNUTS!
I felt bad for forgetting to turn them off and then laughed because I hadn't heard the phrase numbnuts since high school. But man was that guy pissed off. And I thought I was a grumpy driver ha.
unloadercnsper, tucker and MidWest_MacDaddy Thank this. -
Wow. There goes 20 mins of my life I'll never get back.
We've got 1 guy reminiscing about shooting at someone for kicking up too much dust on a gravel lot.
Another guy wants to steal your car if he doesn't like your music.
Several others who seem tnagree it's totally acceptable to vandalize your truck if they don't like DRL (which have been mandatory in Canada for 25 years).
You yahoos do far more to entrench the poor perception of truckers in the public eye than any driver in flip flops (or any of the other accoutrements that offend you so).
If it offends you, don't do it. It's simple: you have no right to dictate others' choices, only your own choices.Dye Guardian, cnsper, Dumdriver and 2 others Thank this. -
