Here in Wisconsin every Hospital has what is called " Community Care " if you run up a major bill you have to fill out a Financial form and it will get worked out. About 10 years ago my oldest daughter had cancer and no insurance, she had a bill of $250,000 and 100% was written off and she did not pay penny.

I'm glad she is ok but That's one reason healthcare costs are thru the roof...we are all paying for her....Socialism
spyder7723, gentleroger, Terry270 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Well thanks, but my daughter had her Cancer come back about a year ago, went into remission but the chemo messed her liver up and now she is seeing a specialist for that, this time around she has health insurance. But looking at what you said about everyone paying for my daughter,s first time with her medical bills as Socialism is debatable, there is a difference between a person that falls on hard times vs a person living off of others and will not find a job to get themselves back on there feet. I'm sure if you had a family member that became sick and and was life threatening that you would want all the help you could get including help with medical bills. I also have two nephews in wheel chairs, they have Muscular Dystrophy do you have any idea on what those wheel chairs cost? try $10-15,000, My brother cannot afford that and neither can you, so is it bad according to you that there are a lot of organizations out here to help with situations like that. Is that also Socialism in your eyes?

Exactly. I can see both sides of the issue. I hate anything forced on anyone but something had to be done. IMO there needs to be a low cost high deductible option for the people who rarely go to the doctor but would be covered if they were to be diagnosed with cancer or anything else that can run six figures in medical billsTheFriscoKid, daf105paccar and cnsper Thank this.

Let's not dive off into political stuff here, not the forum for that.

It truly is an "unfair" country we live in when it comes to healthcare...
The have's and Have Nots- What can I afford-And what is right.
The Upper Middle Class still affording new cars and Homes WITH healthcare for family- While Lower Class assumes week to week incomes that makes a family "Fight" on a regular basis
They say Life isn't fair...But it Can Be when it comes to healthcare...And If you Folks Vote come November For the Correct Person (Not Hillary) Things will turn around..
Be it a Higher Tax For Healtrhcare- Or Reasonable Plans for folks making between 30-60k per year(Lower middle class)
If things stay the way they are....You Guys will Never live life to its fullest.....Forced healthcare(Or tax penalties) Are going to Infuriate you!
Why do you think so many people want union jobs?? Low/No cost insurance with no deductables- Which in turn Allows families to have the nice things in life (Vacations-New cars-Homes Kids educations etc)
If you think your going to drive a truck..Pay 12-15k per year JUST in healthcare fees.....You May Survive..But your Not going to be smiling.superflow Thanks this. -
I am 54 and single. I have an HSA and my policy has a $5,000 deductible. I pay $292 a month. Policy renews August 1st @ $322 a month. Not on Obamacare yet, that becomes mandatory January 1, 2017.
For those that say they never use it and never will, I could say the same until this year. Had a colonoscopy in January. Didn't have to pay a penny for the procedure. Today I had knee surgery. I'll be paying a big chunk of that bill but that is what the HSA is for. I didn't have to have the surgery but I felt it was the best option over the long term. -
I dont even know what an HSA is.
I'm as confused as a baby in a sauna full of shirtless men.

Health savings account. A health savings account (HSA) is a tax-advantaged medical savings account available to taxpayers in the United States who are enrolled in a high-deductible health plan(HDHP). The funds contributed to an account are not subject to federal income tax at the time of deposit.
Better than I could have explained itBoxCarKidd Thanks this. -
My best friend is my Doctor. I helped send him to medical school. My bills have always been zero and he makes house calls. However, because of the political discussion we can't have, I get insurance now through the wife's work.
