I agree with Cattleman84.
Most people do not understand if you get into trucking at 21 you will make it to the 50's before your body breaks down under the work.
However it may not be true now because today's trucks are push button on everything airride.
Half the forums in the revelant medical section IS a discussion in driver health.Cattleman84 Thanks this. -
Here are my thoughts Dave:
Trucking is in the Top 10 most dangerous professions, but yet, it is classified as an unskilled job
Truck Drivers are two times more likely to develop type II diabetes than the average American
The Life span of driver in the truckload sector is 62
The average age of drivers in the Truckload sector is 52
Young people want no part of this job!
Truck drivers have to work 70 hours a week to make what others make in 40
75% of drivers are overweight
50% of drivers are considered obese
If the wage of drivers would have kept pace with inflation since 1980, the average annual pay for a driver in the truckload sector would be $110,000 a year!
Truckload carriers have taken advantage of drivers for the last 40 years, and now the chickens have come home to roost, and they find themselves in the middle of a crisis of their own making with the obvious solution still being the one they least want to make. A raise in driver pay to it's proper levels.
Take care of the pay, and a driver will be more likely to listen to ( AND BE ABLE TO AFFORD) the suggestions of diet and exercise, while out on the road.
Otherwise they will continue to ignore the warnings , continue to die at a younger age than the average American. Drivers will continue to struggle financially while being away from home for weeks, sometimes months at a time.
So to answer your question... this job is a killer, and the rewards are no where close to the risks!Metallica88 Thanks this. -
At my old job i would have had to work 127 hours in a week to make what i’m making this week. Lol
