I have medicare. I have a hard annual deductable of 1350 and everything paid hospital, ER and so on once that is met once a year for 12 months.
Ive already been taken to the er twice, two weeks ago, and again a few hours ago. Ive already burnt my Deductible for the next twelve months so future costs of surgery etc will probably go away. (Free)
It is not easy raising 1350 cash on disability. And there lies the rub. The Hospital sometimes sees the money via charity and tears the bill as paid. And boom all set. Im still paying on the previous year's deductable monthly. They will add to that where necessary.
Everything else beyond cash or billed Copay is paid by insurance company managing my medicare plan.
I have taken out 1000 dollar monthly medicines for 8 bucks copay. Only to walk away from the walmart system that requires three trips and 4 days into a 30 day cycle of prescriptions. I once lost 10 days as they special ordered a medicine out of stock and the second month had to make 4 trips fighting a computer system that never showed the drugs ready to buy and take home.
I went back to my regular pharmacy that is in business with me 20+ years. They only got covered innetwork last year. What part D does not pick up, the State does via Extra Help.
My insurance summary for all of 2018 from last october to this october-Nov 1 totaled 10800 paid. Money I would otherwise be billed personally.
That 6500 deductable would have been met against a 10800 bill. IF you had that 6500 in cash today to write a check to pay it. That would have caused the insurance to pay the other $4300 remaining.
That's not very much. Congress has done a superb job making sure that the insurance shifted the costs to YOU the people.
Aren't you proud to be an American.
One more think.
If you have any private coverage WITH medicare as a seperate insurance?
MAKE. SURE. That the seperate private insurance is BILLED FIRST and Medicare Secondary. Many devious doctors like to bill Medicare first, get lots of overbilled money, and then bill the private insurance with the remaining balance assuring to be paid off to the penny. You the patient never see a bill. So you go back again and again, committing a felony each time without knowing it.Crude Truckin' Thanks this. -

I just realized something else too. What are we paying here for that 6500 deductable insurance? 120 a week? 480 a month times 12 months to the private issuer.
That's $5760 for the year. Minus the $4300 paid against the fulfilled private 6500 deductible... 1460 profit.
And you are still out 10K plus.
If you REALLY wanna use that Insurance, get hurt bad enough to be sent to say the Crowley Trauma Center of excellence in Baltimore Maryland. One of the first and finest of it's kind in the Nation. A cool 110K a week full tour... //snarky.
I know I am slow some days and this is one of them. But I'll get to it if I work on it long enough.Lowlite Thanks this. -
