Since bid runs are awarded on seniority (home every day), then yes, your more than likely to start extraboard. From Vegas barn you may even run triples, upon Estes certification (Note, doubles is easier than vans). Some drivers never take a bid (you get paid more as an extraboard). Some extraboard go home every week and often cover runs from their own barn = usually less miles = less $$$ = home more often. Like all trucking jobs there is a fit for every situation with drivers. Regular OTR company trucking = far less money than extraboard LTL

Dayton Freight might be good fit for you. No doubles and drivers are home everyday.

Bob Dobalina and Western flyer Thank this.

Do you just bring a suitcase of clothes with you and keep it in the passenger seat? Then just do laundry at the hotels?

If Central knows you are staying out 2 to 3 months at a time could you just leave your stuff in the truck instead of having to lug everything in and out each night?

Because I know they said on the Estes thread that the planners can have another Estes driver take your truck in the middle of the night (or day) if they need a truck.

Do you have an automatic or manual assigned to you? I like the autos better.

Yup, I carry everything, as light as possible in my truck. A cooler for beverages and meals (not too big, smaller is better). I'm cheap, do my laundry in my cooler with hotel shampoo (have a ton of hotel soaps and lotions). Central assigned me my truck, I take it everywhere with me, even my barn (if not taking a break). Nobody is going to take your truck on the road. I always keep things I don't want to lug up to my hotel room each night, in the truck. My truck is an automatic, all new trucks from here on out will be automatics with Estes.
