don't give up. i never attended a driving school. basically,i had a ga.class five i think it was and was just put in a truck.duck going under an overpass, couldn't back at all(not to mention no power steering!),and i pretty much self taught over a period of time.SO. if i can do it on my own,YOU can do it with the help of a school.relax and ease your fears or whatever it is you are getting hung up on and just drive the darn truck.reads as if you are putting too much pressure on yourself.

if i am thinking correctly,ga. offers free tuition to local schools thru the hope scholarship. check into it.get your ducks lined up as i know of a marietta based and small outfit that could/might hire you locally if you desire.otr is not out of the question with them.you carry truck home with you.

best of luck. i'd love to see more women in trucking personally as in my mind, they make better drivers.the new breed of male drivers seem to be sissy and whiney while never appearing to do an actual pti.heck they might get dirty i reckon.any male that drives down the road with his leg propped up on the dash has feminine traits instilled and is acting upon them.those that wear fingerless driving gloves carry the traits even farther.

shelly, if your heart isn't set on driving tractor trailers, I believe you said earlier you would be happy even with driving a bus, check into your local school district or public transit authority, most of them will hire you without a cdl and train you the right way. These can be very good jobs, I started driving a school bus 23 years ago at 18 years old, did this until I was 21 and could drive interstate, it was a good job with a great schedule.

As for the backing maneuver you are having a hard time with, everyone here has given you great advice. In my experience as a former trainer and cdl examiner, not everyone learns at the same rate and many instructors do not do a good job of explaining the "why" of things. My favorite tip has already been suggested, get a toy truck and practice the maneuver on your table, this will help you visualize what needs to be done. It sounds like you just need more time to practice on the range and that is fine.

Is it possible to go to school while holding a full time job? From what I've seen it would be about impossible.

CFCC in Wilmington, NC has an evening / weekend class that's manageable along with full time employment. It lasts about 4 months, while their daytime class lasts only 8 weeks.

I did it. The school I went to worked with me on that. ...and my full time job was one of those that you don't really ever clock out on. It might take time and you may be run ragged, but it's do-able.

It depends on the school. Some will work with your scheduling, others won't.
