I picked up a nice old Heathkit IM-4100 counter on Ebay and am in the process of refreshing it. I found 5 new LED displays for it and those fixed my flickering segments. Should I bother reseating the IC chips too? I plan on touching up all the solder joints and replacing the 6000uf electrolytic in the power supply too.

    That's cute.

I've got a bunch of them, a few which was lab counters and I can not find any manuals on them.

    BUT ...

I would leave everything alone. if it works without flicker, then just calibrate it and try it out.

I don't remember if IM 4100 has an external clock input on the back, but one worthy project is a GPS 10mhz standard to add to the precision of the counter.
