Heavy spec mileage

    Yep, I did 100,000 gross with a 260 hp and 9 speed, I also survived... Good old days...

    But a 13-speed would have been nice...

    I remember the crawl gear in high position filled up the whole between 3 and 4... Just a way to get the extra gear...

    I have a lowboy that I'm going to keep going. So the FL makes all the sense in the world for that because I get tired of slipping around now. But the bread and butter is going to be the flat bed gig and it will be definitely more highway miles than off road stuff. And yes, I would really really like to get in either a 13 or 18 speed. I was figuring 5 mpg would be a good bet. That just seems so low. Got to check on weights, but they aren't much different. CAT sdp, why CT?

    Yes. That's it. Clean, low miles. But my PETE is paid for. And it runs strong. This is kind of the frontier up here, and I don't really EVER run into DOT. I keep everything very well maintained but what has me worried about venturing out into the world is keeping a clean score with an older truck. That's the reason I'm lookin around.

    Lots of PETES like yours around my area , pulling chip trailers , flats and log trailers for forestry operators.

    I probably stay a PETE man. my list is short of things to do on it. 2ws 3406E that was re-built 200k ago. Scoots uphill.

    Tire size will play a role in the rear gear difference, too....and you didn't say anything about what size is on the pete, but with a 12K steer, 38K rears, and a 10 speed, I'm assuming it probably has LP22.5's. I'm also guessing a "heavy spec" truck with 14K steer axle and 46K rears will have tall 24.5's to handle the extra weight, and the 4.10's with tall 24.5's won't be all that much different than LP22.5's with 3.70's in regards to engine RPM's going down the road.

    In other words, you'll likely be getting more power, more gears, and if there is any difference in RPM's going down the road, it won't be much.

    I've got 24.5s on my PETE.Tall. The FL has 24.5 as well.

    ...well then in that case, you'd see a difference in RPM @ speed.
