Could have been much worse if the truck was going a little faster

    Rotor blades came off.
Huey's used to do that; one blade would break and that's all it took for the helo to disintegrate and crash.

Do you think landing in the water versus hitting the bridge would have made survival possible or done deal either way?

I can’t imagine that happening as I’m driving down interstate. A helicopter falling out of the sky. I guess that cardinal guy had to check his britches.

Maybe could survive if they hit the water; depends on how high the helo is when that happens. It happens so fast, usually there's no time to think about it. Huey crewman don't have parachutes anyway. If there's a problem, the pilot auto-rotates to a landing. If the main rotor blade breaks, can't auto-rotate.
In the video, looks like one main rotor blade has detached from the main rotor head.

I seriously doubt it would make a difference if you're falling from even a couple of hundred feet in an uncontrolled descent. The G-forces are just too high at impact.

The blades looked like they may have hit a vehicle on the opposite bridge or got very close.

I crossed over that span of 10 hundreds of times and never looked up cause I was always looking down for the alligators that will have you for lunch if you drive over the sides.

Crashing into the water would have been the selfless thing to do, BUT I would also venture to guess that the helicopter pilot had no control of that chopper.
