New guy here. I want to first say hello and second ask advice. I would like to get a CDL and start working as a driver. I have been looking into the situation and feel getting a CDL without getting locked into a contract is me best bet. I am located in Virginia and am looking for direction toward a school with a flat tuition rate that can get me the endorsement and THEN help me find employment. I don't want any loans or promises, just a CDL and direction. I am interested in becoming a company driver versus an owner operator at first, but feel asking those in the business before I pull the trigger might be the best course of action. So please offer me what you can. What schools are out there, who do you recommend and what should I expect to pay.
    Thanks, Neil

most CDL schools will cost anywhere from $3800 - $7000....Community Colleges sometimes offer the class much cheaper...Sometimes..not all provide the training you will need...paying for it yourself will allow you to choose who you work for, but if you know what company you want to work for, they pay for your training,, this is a one year contract normally...

Thanks guys. I have been looking into the community colleges. They seem like the best bargain so far. Not interested in full time over the road at this point, but you never know. If I can find local work thats the direction I am headed.
