Hi guys and gals; I just randomly ran across this forum and decided to join. To keep from boring anybody, I will keep this short and sweet:

I am 22 years old and want nothing more than to be a truck driver. Since being a little kid, I have always been mesmerized by these awesome machines, along with the awesome drivers. I am currently in the process of trying to find a good place to receive my class A CDL. I haven't yet been enrolled in any kind of training, because I am a little confused, to be totally honest. There are places in my hometown, but there are other places that claim to do the testing/training for a cheaper fee, then there are companies who help with it. Regardless, I will eventually get this thing done and start my career as a trucker, hopefully in the not so far away future.

Anyways, obviously I am new to this whole thing and look forward to reading and learning from the fine people on this forum.

I just finished training with Carter Express, and it went VERY well for me. They paid for my schooling through SAGE (IVY TECH), and also paid for my CDL fee and hazmat background check.
I did have to sign a 1 yr contract with them. However, as you might know, most companies require at least 1 yr exp. So, IF I choose not to stay with them after my yr, I still have my CDL, have been trained, and have the 1 yr behind me. It doesnt hurt that i am employed too for the yr.
I have not seen any info on Carter on the boards, and i looked all over. so I will let this be a small blurb about them from what I have experienced so far.
They have followed through on what they told me to expect so far, and have been straight with me from day one. Carter is a VERY family oriented company, with GREAT home time! They do not pay the BEST, (31 dry and 36 reefer) BUT they do get you home every week, and have very few if any deadhead runs.
I was told by an ex employee, ( my neighbor was IT for them, but quit) "if you are a DRIVER for Carter, you are treated like a KING."
We make quarterly bonuses for fuel eff, idle time, safety, and even if we have an inspection and pass. The bonuses can be as much as 800 or more per quarter. So, to me tht makes up a little for the pay rate.
The only thing the recruiter told me that has not and will not come to be, "we put new drivers in what is available when they start, you will probably get into a 2011, or 2012 truck to start."
Well, i guess she didnt lie about the available part, the senior drivers get the new trucks THEN their truck is AVAILABLE.
BUT overall I am VERY happy with Carter Express so far. I know I havent been there long, but I will let the board know if my opinion changes.
If anyone out there has any questions about Carter, please feel free to message me! I know how hard it was to find any info on them.
    Stay safe out there!

    Bumpy Thanks this.

Thanks guys. I am really in a dilemma right now, to be honest. Basically, I am going to have to quit my job, just to get my CDL training done. The training facilities that I am interested in all pretty much have 3 week/160 hour courses. My employer might work with me, but I really don't think that will go over too well, being that there are only 3 total employees where I work; when one person is gone, it really puts a strain on the remaining two. Quite a big decision for me to ponder...
