Hello everyone. I'm new to the site but this looks like a good place to get some information. I'm hoping to find out how to go about getting my CDL and doing the job for a few years. I've had an offer from Stevens Transport to go down to their Dallas facility for training but with more negative reviews than positive I'm nervous about doing so. They said first 3 weeks of training no pay then for 4-8mnths after that they'll pay me $350 a week. Then after that I can expect $2,200 a month at .30cents per mile.

I currently live in New Hampshire and my Girlfriend (going on 4 years) lives in Ohio. I'm hoping to do this as a job for a couple years get rid of my $17,540.83 debt, get some money saved up and move to Ohio to be with her. My accounts are currently in the red no thanks to walmart firing me in April 2012, I've been trying to get unemployment since then.

Any advice anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully something can come along soon before I lose my car, phone and internet.

    Thanks in Advance.

First thing you need to know is that you will hate this job to start out with. Stevens as a company has a bad reputation. I have never driven for them but have heard the horrible stories. Driving takes some getting use to. Being away from home sucks. But as you get a little time under you belt things pick up. You might even like it. Just be prepared to put sometime in before it gets better.
