HI , I'm new here actually, I'm not a trucker yet but lately I'm in deep search to get a good pay job doesn't need to back to school (I'm 41 years old next month have a family and living in Maryland ) . I'll be grateful if you share me with your ideas and thought about that carrier from your own prospective . how I start ? which school to go ? sponsored training school or self tuition ? which companies should I start with ?...etc . thank you again for your help and stay safe :) .

    Welcome to TTR, Traveller72!

Well, for starters, I would recommend reading through the different topic forums on this site to get a better understanding of the trucking industry, lifestyle of a truck driver, etc. Being a truck driver is not an easy job by no means. It is probably the most under-appreciated and overly regulated career one can take on. Not to mention it is hard on your family, too. If you have a wife and kids at home that are used to having you home every night, you need to think how they may cope (or not) with you being gone a lot.

I'm not trying to talk you out of becoming a truck driver, just giving you a few key points to take into consideration while you think about truck driving as a career. Good luck and again, welcome!

Go to a community/tech college apply for a grant, shouldnt be hard to get one. I only had to pay for books in my 8 week cdla course. Job is a lil tough at first, but you hang in there put in your year is when it starts getting better usually. After training w/ a trainer and get your own truck is fun and shines some enlightment on you also.

As Prodriver777 said, a community/tech college is a very good option. There are some good private schools also. Many companies will reimburse you the tuition if you work for them. If you want company sponsored there are several good ones such as Prime & Central Refrigerated & TMC. Think about tanker work, the pay is excellent. Schneider will hire you out of a private school or community college school for their tanker division. Tons of options available for you. Keep researching.

welcome traveler there's tons of info here to help to you out,you will need to know that new drivers dont really make good money, some barely get by,not trying to discourage only trying to straight up.
if you do company training and stay with them for a year you don't owe for the tuition, private schooling gives you more flexibility where you go.either way we are here to help answer any questions you may have Good Luck.
