Was given advice to come here and check for advice as I begin my journey into this field.
It is pretty much my last solid chance at really doing anything to ensure that I can leave behind enough to take care of those I care about when I am gone. Though this may seem like a morbid outlook at only 35 I like to remain realistic and consider what I have already tried doing in my life to get to this point.
Im currently in school at Parnell Commercial Driving School run by Mr P. Express, I am unsure if I am going to sign on with them after I am done but I am realizing that it is a guaranteed job which is something I currently do not have.
Looking forward to meeting everyone here and appreciate any insights given.

I haven't heard anything negative about Mr. P Express.
Do you live in Indianapolis?
You can do well in trucking, especially if you get all the endorsements added to your cdl. With the endorsements, you can move into the higher paying jobs, especially after
6-12 months experience with safe driving and no tickets.Ddh77777 and GhostInTheMachine Thank this. -
I’m about 15-20 minutes from the school in jeffersonville.
I’ve got a good sized pool of people I’ve met over the years who have done this and I’m oddly curious on if any of them were active here. Sadly the one I wanted to talk to most about it passed last year so I only really have his memories he shared.
as for endorsements, I’m studying for tanker, doubles/triples, and Hazmat. Pretty much have them down packed on CDL Exam Prep app with the blue steering wheel.
passed the permit tests in two days of effort and while all the snow stuff really threw me for a loop being I was born and raised in SWFL and only moved to Indiana late 2025. It was an informative experience, I’m approaching this as cautiously as possible and trying to get a good idea on what needs to happen.
I’ve got a 3 year plan almost done and going to stick it to my wall and inside the truck to keep me on track as well.Chinatown Thanks this. -
That's a good location for jobs. Are you going to stick with trucking after the 3 yr. plan?
GhostInTheMachine Thanks this. -
Schneider Bulk might hire you from your location. If so, that can be a fast track into the tanker world.

Honestly, I can say with uncertainty yes but you never know what happens tomorrow.
I have the constant reminder of I’ve tried many things and none of them ever worked out or in the case of my main skilled trade before going this route the only way to make decent money was management, and I’m the guy at work who knows he most of the time has no business worrying about what other people are doing unless it directly affects me. I also hate telling people what to do.
Id like to be optimistic but I know the next three years are going to be hard, I don’t know how it compares to 15 years of retail, but I’m going in prepared for the worst. -

- Any driver who does not meet the experience level must participate in a 4 week training program.
- Student drivers must be able to provide training documents with a final GPA of 90% or better from an accredited training school.
- We only hire the BEST!

I don't think the next 3 years will be hard, if we can get you started off right.GhostInTheMachine Thanks this.

Thanks for all of these, I’m adding them to my notes.
Im passively looking at companies right now because passing the exam is my main focus even more so that I’m on a state grant for school and I really don’t want to owe the state that money back.
I will say I’ve been given some interesting advice by few and even more by others in regards on what to do post exam.
I know I’m not getting my license and hopping into a truck solo, I have long understood the school trains me on the foundational knowledge and helps me learn to pass the exam, whoever I sign on with completes my actual training, few people in my class aren’t really understanding that part yet though.Chinatown Thanks this. -
