Hi everyone. I searched all over for a website designed for drivers. I've only been driving for 8 months, and I've learnt very quickly some important things to do and not to do. I see a lot of people giving advice for weight training and such i.e. eating power bars/protien shakes, lifting weights etc.. I just need advice on eating better and burning a bit of fat. I don't need to weight train, since I'm a 23 yr old 5'3" 110 lb female. I don't want to be "buff" :biggrin_255: But I've noticed that a lot of my muscle has started to turn into fat. I take OTR to the extreme. A lot of you stay out 10 or so days, well I stay on the road for 60 days before I go home. This making things a bit harder. I've started walking whenever I stop at a rest area or if I'm sitting for a day or so. I'm a team driver with my husband. When we do go home, I buy around $200-$250 worth of groceries. I cook all my meat at home and bag it and freeze it in our freezer on the truck. I cook mainly in a crock pot, but hope to soon get a small grill so I can eat a freakin steak once in awhile! My biggest problem is that I've always been pretty toned and in good shape but since I've been driving I've noticed my weight starting to slip and little more everyday. I'm not gaining weight, I'm loosing it, but it's because I'm loosing all my muscle and it's turning to fat. I know this may sound funny, but I'm going home for the 4th of July and I want to have a nice flat tummy to show off my new bikini. I also want to tone my buttocks and calfs a bit. I have about 7 weeks. Will walking/running 30 min a day and doing some push ups/crunches get the results I want in 7 weeks? I'm at a loss as to what else to do! We don't usually have a lot of down time unless we're on the east coast.
Anyways, sorry about the babble. If anyone has any advice for me I would really appreciate it.

It's a myth. Muscle is not fat and fat doesn't turn to muscle. You are gaining fat and may be losing muscle. "Tone" is a result of diet, and "muscle" is a result of effort plus nutrition plus sleep.
Fat is gained or lost by eating above or below your maintenance level, so whatever that level is, you'd want about 500 calories below that to lose fat at a healthy rate. Fat lost too quickly is easily regained. The lesser activity of trucking has lowered the amount of calories you burn, lowering your maintenance level, and your eating habits were above maintenance for the new activity level.
7 weeks can see a good amount of body recomposition, and any muscle you gain will assist in burning fat. WHAT you eat will also have an effect, but mostly it's just two rules: eat enough proteins to be muscle sparing and your daily caloric intake vs. calories burned. Don't do resistance exersize two days in a row, but you can do cardio daily if you like.
I'm almost 56 and I've had a bit of practice in this:

    Hi,
This is a creative challenge for you, especially with all of the miles on the road that you and your husband put in.
The only advice that I can offer is to always vary your cardiovascular workout, otherwise it will take longer for your body to lose wt. and for you to tone in those areas.
Also, resistance train your upper body on one day and your lower body, (inc. abs.), on another. :)
