Hi,
I'm not far from you, if i say A40 Polish War Memorial (watch out for low-flying aircraft! ) you will know where I am!
I'm English, although hubby is American, and we actually live in the US, though my son is at school in London, for another 18 months, so I'm here too.
Can't wait to get back to the US, England is a total mess now, but then you already see that for yourself!
Anyway, welcome. I have a lot of neighbors who are in the process of moving to either Canada or Australia. When I went to New Scotland yard to get my fingerprints done for my green card, I was told that it used to be a walk-in service, no appointment needed. But there are so many people leaving England now that there is a 3 month waiting list, and they have taken on extra staff!!
So welcome to the happy band of folk who are cheerfully deserting the sinking ship!Buckaneer Thanks this. -
Cheers DS Mrs Buckaneer isnt a Diesel Dolly but Im sure shell nose here to check things out
-
Sure do its where they have half sized lamp posts because of the runway is so close to the road.
Its no surprise so many people are wanting to leave, its not just the economic recession thats a worry. Im more concerned about the social recession. What we are turning into in this once green and pleasant land scares the hell out of me. I dont want to leave, honestly I love this god forsaken place. I know I'll miss her like mad but enough is enough. Even ten year old kids are starting to try and kill each other.
The last one to leave will hopefully turn the lights off. -
. . . . and put the cat out!
Yep, the half size lamp posts are a trip, especially in a truck thats bigger than them! -
Who do you drive for?
I rarely see any English trucks here, except the odd Stobart fridge, they are mostly Polish now! -
I'm self employed and work for several firms like an agency driver. Sadly the fact is I now have to go through temp agencies to keep on working in these firms. They now pay these agencies far more than they ever paid me. !!!!
I used to run a few trucks employing people but those days are well over after being carved up by cowboys and bent hauliers. Heck I even turned game keeper and got a job behind a desk running a 150 driver operation for one of THE major high street names for my sins.
Our roads are filling up with Turkish, Polish, Hungarian et al when years ago you only saw the Dutch, French, Italian and German boys on a regular basis. The latest crop of drivers are causing increasing numbers of accidents by their careless driving by driving beyond their hours, drinking and basically not knowing our rules of the road. How many of them turn right at a roundabout but stay on the left hand lane and dont indicate ? -
I seriously doubt that many are even qualified drivers, ther has been so much fraud recently!
I work in ER and I've heard of cases where drivers have been brought in from accidents, and found to be driving under someone else's licence. One nearly died, because he needed a blood transfusion, and the ID he was using was from a driver who was group AB+ and he was AB-. It was only because the nurse was as cynical as me that s/he re-tested the patient instead of believing his ID!
I know some areas have started putting up signposts in Polish, but I'm not sure how much that helps.
We had a parcel delivery via DHL a few months back, and after it failed to arrive several times, i contacted the dispatch office. They said to put a sign on the gate, in Polish and Russian, as so many drivers cannot read English. I did that, only to find that the driver was Turkish!! -
You'll probably remember in the middle of the night. When you do let me know. It may help to know where theyve worked
-
It doesn't surprise me to hear that at all.
I cant believe you were asked to put a sign up on the gate. Next thing dhl will be charging extra to have your delivery made by an english speaking employee.
How the hell can they employ non english reading employees ?? How the hell do they know where to take the parcels if they cant read ?? Not to mention things like warning signs road closed signs etc !!!
I thought things were bad a few years ago when the Polish drivers turned up, work dropped because they were cheaper to hire. Peak times meant you got work and theyd started employing Polish office staff to deal with things.
It was great standing in dispatch at 2am waiting for a load being spoken too like i was a piece of dirt and then the phone goes on the desk and is thrust into my hand as Im told "driver lost you tell him way to go !" Unfortunately for him he was looking for Newport and he was in Shropshire when, you guessed it he wanted the one in South Wales.
