Ya have to change things one person at a time. Just thnk about this...

Say one dispatcher changed their attitude.... He didn't like his drivers sitting all w/e....

He'd start harrassing load planning... The squeaky wheel gets the grease, right? So load planning starts making sure he has loads so this dispatchers drivers don't sit....

This one dispatcher treats his drivers with courtesy and respect... Gets them in a timely fashion, sends someone out to fix the truck when it breaks rather than make them wait...

So more of his drivers stick around.... and his drivers are prone to do more for him as well....

Now other dispatchers become curious as to WHY this one person is accomplishing more.....

So he teaches them. And on it goes....

Yes, one person can make a change, but they have to be willing to stand up and MAKE IT HAPPEN!

    Not exactly an 80k job...

More like 30k base then Commission on each driver hired. I don't know the financial situations of the people who pull those bone-headed moves.

I assume all the inside recruiters are the same. When one posts that a 70K salary would be a pay cut that he couldn't afford, that tells me he's making some pretty good green being a recruiter/professional liar. I guess not all recruiters have spend-happy wives. Maybe these are the guys who are being led by the ear out the door.

I don't know, Lady. Maybe it's just me. If I'm working for a company, I'll be biased in favor of that company. I'll never become biased against it and still be employed there. If my outfit turns into a monster, I'll be out the door in a heartbeat. I couldn't work for a company I didn't like, at least not for long.

Well, that's all well and good until the driver runs into a situation of his own, be it mechanical, HOS or otherwise. Then the buck-passing begins.

Right now, my hubby is working for a company I have very little use for. I would not send another driver there. Why? Because the Boss Man seems to believe it is acceptable behavior to cuss, yell, scream, and call the drivers foul names. He is still there because, right now, jobs are EXTREMELY tight in this area, and he is holding on until he can find something better.

It isn't a change in the driver that will precipitate change. It is a change in the people who have more of the control. In all reality it only takes ONE dispatcher to start it. I watched one company that was VERY bad change into one of the best around, all because they hired this one guy who used to be a driver... and it happened just like the example I gave you.

Some companies will NEVER change. That is a fact of life. But when someone is honestly curious, it is only fair to give them the best answers we can, so long as it doesn't endanger us in any way. As a matter of fact, it is really in our best interests.

It's my understanding that Craig left of his own free will.

On the other hand, I understand that 3 were fired on Tuesday.

Could also be the Hiring average that we have to sustain in order to retain employment. We're coming up again on a 10-week review (more or less, it shows who's trying, or just showing up to get a paycheck.)

Three fired dispatchers last Tuesday means three openings today. You should go grab one of those open slots. Put on a shirt and tie, complete with dress slacks and Guccis and go after it. Just don't change for the bad or even worse if you get it. These days I wear a dress shirt, dress slacks, nice dress shoes, and a 75-dollar tie to work, yet I still come here to post at this site. Then again, I have an elephant's memory, and I remember well the abuse I got in trucking years ago.

After reading your posts here, you seem like a pretty good ol' boy, Dude. I think you've earned your keep and your welcome. I was wrong about you. I'm glad I was wrong, too. There aren't too many folks with inside access who will rub shoulders with drivers. And you do seem to give a #### about what a driver wades into when he hires on at a company. That I can respect.

Maybe you need to let us know more details so we can possibly help your husband find a better job.

Where are you? Do you want to stay there?
How much experience does he have?
What long-term plan does he have?
What does he prefer, mode-wise? Reefer? Dry? Flat?

I bet there's a truck at another, better company out there near you guys that your hubby can step into tomorrow. This may not be an improvement. But it might be.
