I was referring to the "Pissing match" between Tip and the other JB recruiter that Tip was quoting. If the recruiter is a flat out liar(as said by Tip and others), then by simple logic, that means he was lying about that too. I wasn't saying I didn't believe what anyone's salary is(nor do I care), I was just simply saying; "once a liar, always a liar.

I guess you could sell your house and move somewhere else, but it's a hell of a time to sell a house. -
All these mega-carriers have an advantage. They are willing to take drivers with little, or no experiance. It's supply and demand. There is no shortage of wide-eyed newbes anxious to get behind the wheel of a big rig.
The reason these big companies screw people over is, simply, they can. Every week there is a group of new-hires, that will replace the group that just left.
Logically, it would seem like a better idea to pay a little more, treat drivers better, to keep them. Evidently, it is more profitable to have the high turnover rate, or it wouldn't go on like it has for so long.
Who knows, someday the trucking industry may change for the better. It sure can't get much worse. It has become a last-resort type of profession for most people. If all else fails, go to truck driving school.
Yet it is an honest job. It is a tough, lonely, thankless, low-paying, and sometimes dangerous job. I left the industry in 2001, and even though I have kept my CDL current, I don't ever plan to return, unless all else fails. -
The only thing I can think of that's OTR where he can be home every 2 weeks or so out in California is Watkins, who was just bought out by fedex.
Sadly, that's the truth. Like us, Most of the freight goes East of I-35.
Companies like to separate at the Great Divide. NM and West coast states, including NV and UT, then from TX on eastward. -
Well, if you remember correctly, we are going to be selling out and leaving! LOL! And I hope it is sooner rather than later!
I've been hunting thru everything I can find. So far, the only ones I can get are seasonal, and this is an "out of season" time around here. Too late for the road work, and too early for the citrus... But it's okay, as long as he stays away from the boss. Right now it's a bad case of one "bad apple" spoiling the barrel. He yells, screams, and curses like a two year old fighting a nap, but he never lets a driver sit! My hubby broke down Thursday night, in the middle of backwoods Washington, and this madman got someone out there within 2 hours. And it was 2 am! He's starting to pay decent. $780 this week for a run to Portland and back, and for the day long sit in Portland. Not the best checks we have ever seen, but livable.
We're now seriously considering a place in Independance, KS, or another one in Cherryvale KS. If we do that, there is a small company just outside Coffeyville that the boss has told me to come in and see him. (He is a friend of one of my friends, that I did work for in Safety!) And out of KS there are plenty of driving jobs!
Okay Gentlemen, it is time for me to hit the hay, so I will try not slip and slide across the kitchen in my attempt to get to the bedroom! Nite nite! -
Something to think about.
Oh yea.......JB Hunt Sucks. Someone should make a website..... -

My husband recently switched from Werner to JB Hunt purely for economic reasons. Regional at Werner .21 cpm vs .35 cpm at JB Hunt. He got all the mileage he needed at Werner and had a dispatcher that got him the miles he wanted, but when he drive 3300 miles one week and got a check for around $600.00 we realized something had to change. JB Hunt the paychecks are bigger but the mileage is less, which makes him grumpy because he would rather be at home riding his motorcycle. I get the message through this thread that JB Hunt is pond scum and for the most part I can see your point, but to me all recruiters lie and you just have to accept that, I put them up with car salesman.
So the question I am posing is: If JB Hunt is crap and Werner could probably be lumped into the same sort of category, where does one go to get the pay and mileage they need. His idea of mileage is no less than 2800 miles per week, with a cpm of atleast 30 cpm. I hear everyone ripping them a new one but no one offers alternatives, and perhaps this is not what this thread is about, but to me, if there is no useful solutions whining and moaning really serve no useful purpose.
Ok, I will now be getting down off my soapbox and rejoing the human race. -
We live in Arizona, and he enjoys the regional driving, what can he do and who can he do it for.
Ok, now I am officially done. -
Wow I have been gone for 9 weeks, and this thread is still going! Yea a lot of my thoughts are very late but sometimes thats just the way we dun.
MrDude, thanks for coming over and ofering your input and most importantly sir good luck on your interview. When you get that job if you take the same things you said here (care about your drivers) with you sir you will be one of the most succesful, and respected dispatchers out there. It goes without saying if your drivers respect you and know they can trust you they will work harder for you. As far as needing info on what a driver does or deals with, I bet any driver in your fleet would be very happy to talk with you about anything you want to know. We want to know what you guys go through and how we can help that, but we also want to know you will try and keep us safe, and productive. Sir good luck at Wal-Mart.
Friendly, being out of Phoenix you are in one of the best places in the country for finding almost any job out there. I see your point of not a lot of info on various companies offered in this thread, but the main index has links to check out any company you and he would consider. And of course the more experienced people here can offer you information on those companies. I dont know much about many of the companies personally, but I do know that your area is great and the people here can help you guys with any info you may want. The miles and pay you mention should be an easy thing to find. But in all honesty no matter what we think of JB if what they offer fits into what you both want then definately stay put. Either way good luck to both you and your husband!
Not a lot else I can say. Good thread, good info and good laughs at times.
