Greetings neighbor! I'm new here as well, but not to trucking. Sounds like you're getting a Christmas present of a new career. Be safe, learn everyday that you're out here, and have fun doing it all!:biggrin_25520:

I done screwed up!! Saturday morning I was packing to leave on Saturday night. I went to get my birth certificate -- and guess what -- it was GONE!!! I tore this house apart looking for it, and it was nowhere to be found!

Fortunately I was able to get hold of my recruiter (Joan) and explain the situation. She was very understanding, and set me up to start on 12/27. I went and procured a new birth certificate, and I'm all set to go. (The nice thing about the birth certificate is that it says "live birth" right near the top, so contrary to many rumors, I was not still born!)

Anyway, a one-week set back sucks, but on the flip side, I should be able to practically memorize the CDL manual.

Boo-Radley, I can relate to the missing birth certificate thing. I had mine, and my passport and a few other papers, stashed away "somewhere safe". lol

I'd been looking for them for over a year, fortunately there was no pressing need. I was too stubborn to report the passport missing or stolen b/c I knew it was just misplaced.

They turned up as I was moving everything out of my apartment last month. They were in an envelope in a box in another box behind a box and under some boxes. Quite safe indeed!

Reading that manual will help, from what I can tell. It seems like all the manuals and textbooks are basically the same, just that some are more complete than others.

Ya -- I'm not sure how it works, but putting important papers somewhere "safe" seems to backfire quite frequently. I lost the title for a Sportster I had, got another, kept the bike awhile, and then sold it. I found the old title just the other day:biggrin_2552:

Missoula is nice. Muddy, but nice. Not so great at the internet access, but nice.

I am feeling great about my choice in Watkins-Shepard. It just seems to match the way I look at things and like to do things. Three guys in the class ahead of me got their trucks today (more or less), and I'm in a class of one!

About 8 people scheduled for next week, but I've got a 3-day weekend coming up first: Practice, practice, football, and practice.

3 weeks since I posted, and I'm sure everyone has been sitting on the edge of their seats . . .

I'm driving truck #1755, got stuck behind that 6-hour shutdown of I-5N at Mt Shasta, and had even more fun getting over the Mt Ashland pass the next day. Other than that, my biggest problem has been getting online but that will get fixed in a week or two.

Boo-Radley, I missed you the day I left, hope all is well!

This industry has some generalizations but it is an individual journey for everyone. Getting your start is the key and what you do from there is how you will make your way. My advice is to take it slow, drive safe, and keep your nose clean. Eventually you will find where you would like to be and you will know how to get there.

Great to see fellow Pacific Northwesterners on TTR! I'm a newbie and am considering Watkins Shepard as a company to apply for once I graduate. It seems like the 10 day orientation could be quite intensive. Any pointers on successful completion of it? How do you like it so far? Sorry for all the questions. Best of luck to you!
