Good morning everyone, I've been lurking for about a week so I decided to register and introduce myself. I've been unemployed for almost two years and decided that a career change is in order. I had never thought about trucking until a few weeks ago when a friend suggested it. I am very excited about doing it. I have contacted the WIA program in SC to see if they will foot the bill for me to go to school to get my CDL. My Friend suggested Stevens, but I don't like the prospect of being chained to someone for a year. I'm looking forward to learning and I am an open book.

Hello there

Hello and welcome, you are at the right place to learn!
There are threads here about trucking schools and about jobs in every state. So you can read up and ask questions before you go talk to any school or company.
If you have a family, then you becoming a trucker will change their lives too, I'd really suggest that y'all talk it thru and know what you are getting into. Being away for weeks at a time is a huge strain on a marriage, so make sure they know what to expect.
There is the Ladies Room here for truckers' wives, to help with the big adjustment being home alone when you go out on the road the first time. There are other wives here who can help and support your family when they make that adjustment.
Keep posting and let us know how it all works out! -
