My truck will run 85-90 all day long, but I mosey along at 63-68. I dont care who passes me, I'll hang back and y'all can tailgate each other right to the next pile-up.

As far as being a 'safe' driver...the only thing that sticks is the pulling onto the shoulder and stopping. That's unsafe for anything but loss of power or blowing a steer tire. ELD or not, save for the two reasons listed, there's no place on the shoulder for a truck.

Those of us at Swift know the speed policy. It is told to us many times.
Control your speed or there will be consequences.
It is made very clear in orientation as well.

If you let a 65 speed governed truck get to 80, that means you were in manual control of the truck and not on cruise control. Because on cruise it would never happen, being an auto shifted/computer controlled truck.
If you let it get that far into the red the engine would likely blow, and there would be alarms going off in the truck for the over speed and RPM's.
Unless it was out of gear and coasting with no control.

If you were in manual control of the truck at that speed it would mean that you willfully allowed it to get to that speed.
Late for a delivery and tried to make up one minute of that time? To what end?
It cost you your job, and rightfully so.

You do have a hope that the companies you apply for will not find this thread, on public media.
One look at all the problems, and you will not be hired.

Personally, I hope you are already in front of me when you start a bonehead thing, and not behind me.

Well he literally said he didn't realize he was going 80 until it was too late, at which point he backed out. Swift trucks are governed around 63/64mph I think? So if he didn't realize he was going downhill and picking up momentum from 64mph all the way till 80mph, in my head that's not being in control of his speed.

I can remember the days of triple digit trucks and trying to keep up with Montfort trucks across I-10, mine would top out at 110 and I couldn’t keep up

Some of the Monforts were quite something else. In the east there isnt too many places to let her go. But in the west... now we have something. In the east its just not much room for that.

If you truck is geared for 80 plus .what is wrong with coasting to 80 in the right conditions. I've never understood putting the brakes on going down a hill for ''no'' reason. It's different if you hold the throttle down[ Georgia overdrive] but just coasting? IDK,

I am doing a bit of this----
    [IMG]

--- on this topic. Swift jokes aside. Once the Governor takes the engine out I don't really see how a truck's engine compression (NORMALLY) will allow doing 80 on a short low % downgrade. If however, you are in places like Cabbage, Saluda and doing 80 you are in some serious doodoo. Some people don't notice but the QC keeps up with two figures based on how a driver operates. Idling % and Overspeed %. I have seen drivers called in before with carriers other than Swift and chewed OUT! If I were in charge of a carrier safety dept I would know what my fleet overspeed% average is. I would warn a driver one time for going way past this average. Next time it is hit the bricks. I do think Swifts Overspeed policy is ticky tac, however, they are free to operate that way. I would not do it.

Those cameras can be quite sensitive. When I had one, it would go off just hitting a bump.

If your truck is geared for it then yes that's fine mine are geared to run around 100 but as a owner I don't want to speeding tickets will kill your insurance and I tend to go the speed of cars as long as the interstate is not heavy with traffic but still try to limit myself to just over 70 mph for fuel economy but at the end of the day its company policy where he works and that's all that matters he doesn't own the equipment so he must respect the owners wishes
