Hi everyone! I'm hopefully a future Prime driver. I'll be going to my local collage in about March to obtain my CDL and I can't wait. My question for you Prime drivers is it unrealistic to get home time every other weekend to spend time with my kids?

If you live in the lane possibly, but don't count on it. Typically your out three to four weeks at a time. The nest thing to do is spend a year learning and get some miles under your belt then look for something that gets you home more often. Although I think prime has regional in the south southwest.

Ip, u2, or ORD might be able to answer that question I'm just on my way to orientation so I don't know much about it. I did hear that they have a run that goes from south Texas up through that part of the country. But don't quote me on that I don't want to miss lead you. One of the three guys should be able to answer that question.

    Lil Red Head Thanks this.

All I can say is good luck with that... If you live near a freight line... you could stop in for an hour or two if your passing through that area. If your going reefer, no clue about regional. Flatbed has a Texas regional, but you might have to be here for awhile to get that.
After looking it up on mapquest... you got a shot bein that close to I40... I ran a lot on I40 when I was with my tnt trainer on the reefer side. Stupid bumpy road...

Ya I40 goes right though where I live Ft.Smith and ya its bumpy I have the joy of riding it in a POS Dump truck lol. Thanks for all the info. I figured I would have to do at least 1 to 2 years before i could be picky. This site has been very helpful and the more I read about prime from there drivers point the more confident I am getting. Thank you all again!:biggrin_25520:

Being that close, if you get a load with time on it, you could stop in if the route takes you through there. Atleast for me when I was on the reefer side, I40 was the main route we took out to cali. You can keep the dump truck lol Its bad enough in a Cascadia...

I ran across a guy who was shuttling between somewhere (unspecfied) on the east coast and the DC in Pauls Valley OK. So those runs do exist, and I hear of more of them all the time.

The thing to do is to talk to your FM once you get through training and out on your own. They're going to know more about it than we do.

Yes. I think they like you out 3 weeks between hometimes.

Thats for the traditional OTR folks 3-weeks out, 4 days at home max. You accrue one home day per week. Regional runs that include a drivers home in the run offer more opportunites to spend a night at the house - assuming there is a suitable near-by location to securely park your rig. At least that's the plan the last time I heard anything about it. YMMV.
