I’ve been reading this forum for a while now gathering information here, there and everywhere as I’ve gone along. First time posting so nice to meet you all.
I recently graduated from Roehls driving school and am opting out of going OTR in exchange for a local offering (Sysco) seeing as my wife is 5 months pregnant.
I’ve gotten a tanker endorsement, and plan to finish up the process of getting my hazmat as well as the others to eventually get into gas/propane hauling. After a gaining some experience. Just thought I’d say a little about myself and my plans. Any other information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Sysco is a good company and can make good money there.
Believe most of the delivery routes are hand unload with 2 wheeler.
Some cities I have seen are looking for linehaul or shuttle drivers they call it.I Believe u have to have doubles endorsement to do the shuttle deal.leviant0107 Thanks this. -
Metro Detroit area. Thus far I’ve been told that it’s exactly that. Hand unload with a 2 wheeler. Apparently a few routes have electric jacks due to walking distances.
I’ve done some reading on this forum about food service and Sysco. I know I’m in for some hard work. I’m 29, in pretty good shape. I don’t mind working hard, I’ve worked on the assembly line for Chrysler and other places.Chinatown Thanks this. -
Your a young man go for it!!Chinatown and leviant0107 Thank this.

Smart move going with Sysco. You'll make plenty of money to take care of your family and the new baby.

Another choice; maybe look at for later is YRC/Yellow which is Teamsters Union and health insurance is free for the driver and family.

Thanks for that. I thought it might be the best route seeing as I started hearing about “I’ll be alone almost all the time”Chinatown Thanks this.

I actually spoke with them but they did want me to have about a years worth of experience so that makes sense what you said. Or revert my license back to a permit and work as a dock to driver position. That wasn’t happening
-
Yeah, better stick with Sysco. Many drivers would love to have a job that pays as well as Sysco.
Later, if you get tired of unloading, then you can try a line haul outfit. -
Now correct me if I’m wrong but linehaul is like drop and hook from terminal to terminal right?austinmike and Chinatown Thank this.
