Yep, family. Originally lived all Thailand until settle in Issan where more laid back and barely see ANY falang (foreigner) weeks at a time. Typically if I found local/regional work with a Mega in the past I made sure before I left that I had a rehire confirmation before leaving to make it easier to contact them upon returning OR it helped with moving to a different company to confirm my status with a the most previous employer. The heavy haul work is local to me in my hometown and I follow it more seasonally with my trips to Thailand aligning well between monsoon seasons here and their construction schedules. I'm kinda lucky too in that I also have family that run a fairly large construction (dirt movers mostly) that require heavy haul and occasional loading/unloading of limestone from river barges which I also do if the MS river isn't flooding the yard too bad. Actually already talking with some oilfield companies 3 weeks out from getting back and possibly going to Texas depending on offer and rotation. I was oilfield for a long time before getting into trucking so I naturally fall into this work if it comes up. My initial goal before was just to use trucking as a supplement to my off rotations whilst working oilfield and it's just naturally progressed this way over time while I was trying to gain my 2 years behind the wheel. It's been my experience that as long as your MVR, drug testing background is clean for a long period of time and you've got at least 2 years under your belt in a heavy haul/haz mat tanker type-ish kind of job you've ticked off most of the boxes for a lot of companies that want someone who can operate safely in a very unsafe environments. As far as the break off from work, I generally don't (or didn't) go into detail about it until I started learning about the slow down periods in the companies I worked for and as that evolved it wasn't a big deal given the fact I made sure I was an asset to them during my time there. If you're wanting a 3 month-ish break you'll have to watch how the slow downs start/stop and take advantage of it ahead of time with bookings, visas....
Covid definitely did not make it easy for me this time around with travel bans in place and dealing with the airlines and the 20 hoops I had to jump through just to get in country months ago. I've have had some companies just offer me a leave of absence too because I had attained so many certifications between their clients. Feel free to hit me up via PM if you want maybe I answered everything but all in all it's gonna take a few trips to get it down right. From the way it sounds you're at least ahead of the curve in that your wife can travel freely with you or possibly ahead of you if need be. That's the next plan in our future to get my ol lady here and then let her head over before me to make the transition back easier especially if we're working on building a house, selling our place, building onto her families restaurant, etc.....

no problem. just my 2 cents but you outta talk ur wife into teaming with you, going OTR cryo tanker and make some serious bank and prob get even more time off when you want. No way mine would ever want to drive and if she ever wants to go out with me if I stay OTR I'm gonna have to go food grade tanker cause most if not all hazmat tanker outfits won't let you have a rider.

My wife is totally cool with it when I tell her about it, and she even told me to go check out a truck school, which I did. I decided it was too expensive for something that I probably was not going to use, it did not make sense for me to leave my company which is very good and to go work for a company I knew nothing about. So, I decided to throw the dream of driving away for good. Then a month later my wife who also is a pilot took a job at a local flight school for some extra cash. As fate would have it, the owner of the flight school also owns a local tanker company. Up until this point I have never even been inside a truck, I had just giving up on ever even going for a ride inside a truck. The owner saw how excited and interested I was in his tanker business, then he asked me... Do you want to go for a ride? I could not believe it, I said hell yeah! Since that time, I went for numerous rides with an employee of his. He liked my company and gave me his personal number to let him know whenever I wanted to go. So now a few months ago I gave up the thought of ever riding in a truck, to now having a personal number of a driver who was willing to take me! He told me he and his wife thought I was crazy because I was a pilot but I loved riding in the truck. I understand that response, I mean it takes an odd person to give up a flying for a trucking job, but I am odd, that's me. Through my wife pushing me to not be so shy, I went and hung around the shop during my off days. Not long after that they set me up with a local word of mouth truck school which I went and passed, the school was free to me. The tanker company supplies the school I went to with fuel and they get behind on their payments often, but the tanker company continues to supply them because it's the right thing to do, according to the boss. Since the school is so grateful for the tanker to keep them operating, they offered to let me go there for free. I gave a nice tip to the instructor for preparing me enough to pass first attempt. I know this is long, I am sorry. I am just really excited. Now for the reason I will switch to this tanker job by April of next year. My wife is from Taiwan and we want to go visit 3 months a year. I can't do this with my current job, it's just not possible, I have tried. I talked to the owner of the tankers a few days ago about our plan. He is totally cool with us taking 3 months off a year to visit Taiwan. This guy is the real deal, he is super honest and everyone loves him. I can't thank him enough for giving me the opportunity to ride in a truck, learn how to drive one, and offer me a job. It is a mon-fri local day cab gig. Anyways, that's my life story. Hopefully at least a few of you guys will be supportive. Thanks for hanging in there!

It’s a local company (extremely small) company. He transports def, Jet-A and 100LL Avgas. It’s all day cab work, about an 8 hour day usually. As it turns out, my current employer is trying to come up with something to keep me from leaving completely. All we need is 3 months off a year, so the wife can visit her family in Taiwan. The guy I am going to drive for is ultra flexible too, so I may end up driving 2-3 days per week and flying the other 2-3 days of the week with my current employer. This would be ideal since the 5 year old boy inside of me always wanted, and only wanted to be a pilot and truck driver.

Oh great, another stupid millenial.

Don't worry about being stupid, we all are, or we wouldn't be here. We could go get a cushy office job, working 25 hours a week, making $800,000 a year as a financial advisor, or something else ridiculously easy. But no, we drive trucks, in all sorts of situations and weather.
I have no clue how to fly a king air, or citation, but looks fun. Why don't you come drive for me for a month, and I'll fly your passengers around. I guarantee you rough landings, and probably getting a bit lost on occasion, but it will keep it interesting
