Hey all, I'm thinking of changing careers and thinking of getting into trucking and was wondering if any of you seasoned vets had any usefull information for a newbie like me as in trucking schools versus trucking companies that pay for your school like Swift? I live in the Phoenix Az area. Also what can i expect as in pay and benefits starting out? I have talked to a few recruters and they have made it seem like i can make 40-50k in my first yr. Now i am a military vetran and i don't belive everything a recruiter says lol. any info would be great. Thx

I would check the inexperience or new driver thread on this website, on as for as which is better on going to school on your own or going and get training with a motor carrier, there are pros and cons to both. I went to a school but that was back in '78, a whole different world back then. As far as you being told about making 40-50 grand a year just starting out is a big lie in it's self, more like 25-35 the first year and then depending on the company it will go up from there. Good luck in your decision.......

this is about right. still, you need to get experience if you really want to make it out in this field. You will need at least 1 year to be able to move up, qualify on another company's insurance and start seeing 30k plus..
most insurance companies won't take you unless you have at least 2 years verifiable experience. Good luck with your decision -
Thanks alot
