Hello, just a outsider that is interested in trucking. Been reading reports/data statistics/websites about the industry. I am in a totally different field, but started to enjoy learning about Trucking after having to work with truckers at a job during school (worked as a security guard who had to check in/out truckers). Met some funny characters, but above all, seemed to be a industry that wasn't paying what it should, so decided to learn about it to figure out more about it.

Hi, welcome aboard. 1st, how long ago was that security job? If it was 10 years ago,( or more, most of those "funny" guys, who loved their job, are gone or here. What replaced them are people generally out of options, and drive a truck today because it's the only game in town. It's still a good job, many regulations may restrict what you can make, but I wouldn't drive a truck today for less than $50g's a year. A good % of trucking jobs are OTR today, as that has the biggest turnover, 30% in 90 days and almost half quit within a year. A local or regional job is your best bet, at least it resembles a regular job, OTR is whole different story. Good luck.
