I had the same problems when I worked at Cat, OEM would always blame the engine for vibrations, 99% of the time it was driveline related. Cat would have us undo all the engine mounts and hang the engine off the frame with the overhead hoist. then run the engine at different rpms with a vibration meter. That info would tell if it as a balance problem with in the engine. 99% of the time the OEM would end up paying for the test due to the engine passed.

Now adays can't you just hook the computer up and see if there is anything causing the vibration in the motor?

The Cat ET software can find low and high cylinder contribution problems but can not identify mechanical balance issues.

    TC30THZ Thanks this.

They will usually break at number one or six main. Make sure they replace the damper during the repair. Cat requires the damper replaced with crank or front gear train failure. Is the truck under warranty??? If it is, hope that there is block damage so they send the block out to have the mains line bored. If it is not warranty, I would send out anyway, its more money but worth it.
