As a matter of fact it is an option. A DMV accredited "driving school", (nothing to do with trucking just points deducted from your liscense) can be taken for about $60-$100. These are usually 4-8 hr classes. If you decide to go to a trucking school, make sure that it is DMV accredited. Usually these schools will cost you somewhere between $600-$1000 per 40 hr class if you already have your CDL's. However...taking the class at a CDL driving school will not take points off of your DMV record/MVR!!!
I know this for a fact as my mother, sister, 2 aunts, and 1 uncle work at the DMV. (my mother works at the VA headquarters...all are 20 yr vets of the DMV) Also, a very good friend of mine owns a trucking school in VA. (he was my instructor when I went to driving school)

FYI -- I spoke to them [Mom, sister, and friend] before replying to your post...stating an "incorrect fact" on a public forum tends to make one look like a fool. LOL. I was also told by 2 of the 3 that trying to beat a speeding ticket, especially one that is valid (given your equipment was NOT faulty) is next to impossible, not to mention a waste of money!!!:biggrin_25524:

Good luck! Although I will add that there is no excuse for speeding...especially in a CMV! :biggrin_25513:Slow it down, be safe, and good luck!!!

Feel free to ask me anything that relates to the DMV, of course some laws will vary by state. But hey, a family full of DMV employees/managers...there's a pretty good chance I can find the answer to whatever you need to know! :biggrin_2556:

Virginia and Indiana may have differing laws regarding whether a speeding ticket will be masked or not. Additionally, DMV cannot speak for FMCSA. With regard to CDL, FMCSA trumps Virginia. Depending on the company, you might want to wait until there is a conviction on that speeding ticket before notification. I said depending on the company. Some companies, if you don't tell them when the ticket was written, but, rather, wait until conviction, will look at it as trying to hide the fact you got a ticket...and it will get you fired. Need to find out what company policy is on this.

and Yes, get a lawyer if you don't want this on a driving record.

what we still do not know is, was the ticket written by a "regular cop" or a DOT cop, and THEN used this as the driver inspection..........?? which this ticket, no matter what he does, goes onto his DataQ........(CSA), which if it does, speeding alone is 3 points. then i do believe, THAT is multiplied by 3, giving him 9 points NOW.........???

this also applies to the FIRST speeding ticket he got........heck, he could have 18 points against him, that no one here knows about, until he tells us which police dept/agency wrote him up.

some people had better start learning their lessons..........:biggrin_25516:

Look for attorneys that specialize in violations in any of the throw away papers at your next fuel up! Little pricey but can possibly ruduce the charge or points off! Good luck!

Here in Kentucky you can take an online course, the Prosecutor Traffic Safety Program, and the ticket will be dismissed...It's only good for one though!

You say two years means the first one will drop in a year. Just keep your nose clean the next couple years and everything will be okay. It's the third one that kills and that includes any moving violation.

MVR and CSA 2010 are two different score cards.

CSA 2010 only collects data from inspections and wrecks. But many DOT officers will pull a level 3 inspection when pulled over for a moving violation. In that case it will be recorded on both.

You get a local cop giving you a speeding ticket it will not show up on your CSA2010, just your MVR.

And many states like Ohio will not report to your home state unless you have 3.

Reports mean nothing when you have to disclose any violations to an employer. Either on a hire or on an annual review. Everyone knows all.
