Believe it. I've been told that directly by more than a few carries now. ANY drug related charge or conviction...yes...even a misdemeanor like mine and over 20 years ago is a...and I quote... "Never hire thing for us"...Period!
More than one carrier was most impressed with me on the phone and quite disappointed when we got to that part. More than one said... "Darn Chris, I'm really sorry. I thought we could really offer you something good and work together..but this is a .... (see quote above)"
They were very polite and if I'm any reader of folks, truly disappointed because they could see I have a good professional attitude and a drive to...well...DRIVE!! LOL

2. Seek a smaller company all the big companies give big promises with no results, and look at the carrier and the freight they haul............and long haul is 600 miles minmun full load...........learn the lingo............

I'm going to make a promise to you and the others right now. It's clear that this issue with my record *might* not be as bad as I thought. When Werner turned me down after I simply handed in my application, I was told by one of the instructors, "Nobody ever gets turned down by Werner." As a result, I got pretty alarms. I'm figuring companies will look at me because I've never had an accident, I've only had two moving violations and they both occured 11 years ago, and the suspensions of driving privelages were due to non-payment of surcharges. My concern was that I was wrong, and they would all blacklist me. That doesn't seem to be happening.
I am going to continue to provide an update of my efforts to seek a job. That means that if Swift calls me, I'm going to call them back. Now Schneider has contacted me, and since they are one of the companies I would love to work for, I'll certainly call *them* back.
I haven't applied with any of the companies you've mentioned, but I promise you I will. I'm beginning to feel my oats a little bit, and get more confidence. My pre-hire from Western Express has given me *some* confidence, as has my contact with Swift and Schneider. I'm going to tell you right now, if I get pre-hired from *both* Swift and Schneider I'll go from being extremely anxious to extremely arrogant with a can-do attitude.
You know what? I couldn't understand why you, AfterShock, and others continued to encourage me to approach the prime companies, but you guys have your heads on straight, and I have to give you some credit. I might *not* get into any of the prime companies, but it's obvious I have a *chance*.
I'm going to go ahead and apply with the companies you've mentioned, and as I mentioned earlier, I have applied to several other companies on Friday. I have a feeling next week I'm going to have a lot of updates to provide in the course of my pursuit for my first job in the trucking industry.AfterShock and Skydivedavec Thank this. -
Thanks for the advice but...Ummm...apparently you haven't read much of this thread. ORG and I went to the same college together both paying out of pocket. We've passed and have our Class A CDL's and are now in the job hunting process.
I don't know ORG watta ya think? Have we put some serious thought into all of this? LOL

Chralb~first, a long over due welcome to TTR! [I have been out of town limited internet] I have followed ORGs post since the beggining and I can see from your posts why you and ORG are friends. Much as I have said to ORG I will say to you, despite your DAC, keep trying as you as ORG seem to have a good attitude feet firmly planted and I wish you good luck! ORG: find some posts by oldnewbiegonnabe or otherhalftw or PM them. Otherhalf used to be a trainer at Swift. Oldnewbiegonnabe is JUST FINISHING his training at Swift and went to their school for his CDL. They both might be able to answer questions for you about the compnay and btoh have great attitudes. No matter who or what company you get hired by there will be nay sayers on TTR. Contined good luck to you both and again chralb WELCOME!!

I've seen your comments throughout the thread and I'm really glad ORG has made some nice friends here that show so much support. He's a great guy and it didn't take long for him to earn my respect.
He's dedicated, smart and has that never give in attitude that's oh so rare these days it seems. It always does my heart good to see folks younger than me display that kind of drive and decency. Kind of gives me hope for the future...ya know? I have no doubt he'll do well out there and it's time some good company realizes just how lucky they'd be to have him represent them.
Yeah, we may not get to see each other depending on where the roads lead but I have no doubt we'll stay in touch for years to come.

I am a newbie too. The word I am hearing in selecting a school is make sure they use 53 foot trailers and the courses that the employers are looking at are "Certificate" courses. As near as I can tell, it means 160 to 200 hours. Don't get suckered into a fast class.
I am heading to Crowder college in Neosho, MO in two weeks. They were recommended by a friend of the family and by Conway Truck Load. I am hoping to get accepted by CWTL after school. Conway agreed to pay about 2/3 of the tuition if i make it through the CDL, the Conway orientation, and the 7500 mile of training (they call it finishing).
Like I said, not an expert, but I have done a ton of the research you are doing so I thought I would share what I learned.
