Ok i showed up on time for my appointment. 2.75 hours ago it still wont be ready for 4-5 hours. Now i can either wait till it ready (i do have the hours) and claim detention pay. Or i can just stay in the sleeper for 7.25 more hours and get a full 10 hour break and start with a fresh 14 when i pick the load up.
Which would be more beneficial $$ wise detention is 10 a hour mileage is .30cpm eta is 8/22 0900 so im not making my delivery on time anyway.
So tired of sitting already had two 30+ hour detentions in the past week and a half not to mention ive averaging a 5-6 hour detention for "pre-loaded trailers" not impressed with roehl so far. Should have took the job with the owner op
Forgot to mention i dont get detention time if the time is used for a 10 hour break

Don't you get paid waiting time??? Or is that another one of them things that's "included in the mileage rate" ?
-
If it was me, I would show 15 minutes checking in on line 4 when you got there with a post trip inspection. Then spend 10 hours in the SB against the dock. Then another 15-30 minutes after 10 doing a pretrip and paperwork. That way you get your 10 in and get detention.
How far is your run? Are you on paper logs? -
run is 1200 miles. On elogs. And i dont get paid detention for the 10 hours for my break.
-
Most companies know that we do what Condo was saying and take the 10 hr at the dock. You should get paid for it, if not I would be calling the DM to see what the deal is
-
Roehl doesnt pay detention for detention time that was used to get a 10 hour break.
-
Standard answer, stay on the clock and get paid the detention. Why sit for nothing?
Real answer, do you like running all night? If so take your ten and then go. If not, take the detention, get your load and then take your 10 and start in the morning. Kind of silly to give up the detention pay if you're only going to run a few hours anyway.Ridgerunner665 and Raiderfanatic Thank this. -
You are required to take at least eight hours off duty line 2 in the sleeper and two hours off duty line 1 or a combination of ten hours rest using lines one and two during a twenty four hour period to satisfy the 11/14 hour rule. That is required. Any time you work, you are required to log it as line 4. Any time you drive you are required to log it as line 3.
If you are violating the sleeper/rest rules then you and only you can be held accountable. Detention pay has nothing to do with FMCSA regulations. Detention Time should be logged on duty line 4 on duty. If your in the sleeper for ten hours, then you are off duty. I would suggest looking for a carrier that didn't abuse your rest period.Civilservant Thanks this. -
Just picked up on this. At time of posting you had been there almost 3 hours, you're on elogs and you're not sure if you're going to use this as part of a 10 hour break or if you're going to collect the detention pay.
With elogs wouldn't you have had to make that choice at the start of this and be on either line 4 or line 1/2 already?Civilservant Thanks this. -
Would it be possible for you, or someone else to explain this in more detail thoroughly for a newbie? I'm trying understand but I don't understand exactly.. Please explain in more detail, and better.
