What IF: I Buy a truck with a 350hp motor, can i run it over the mtns. Yes you can run the Sierra Nevadas. However, its the flat lands running between Mc Allen, Texas & Minn.St.Paul Mn. that will blow your motor if you continue to work it 80k lbs @ 75mph. Try setting the speed limit down to 65mph or slightly lower.

No, I'm not basing a big purchase on just opinions here. Even when I get opinions here on less important things, I do more research outside of the forum. In the forum though I end up messaging the guys I find out have good experience like small fleet owners (Flatbed) or guys that have other relevant experience.
We got this 48 inch sleeper to run as a day cab because we got it at the price a similar well-maintained day cab would have cost but with the bonus of using sleeper berth time for HOS/logs whenever its needed. We have already ran a larger sleeper as a day cab because we got a great deal on it so logistics wise it will work. The roads that don't allow you to go past 65 ft total don't affect our local work.
The question about using this for a while as a long haul sleeper came up because we are renting a DD15 72 inch sleeper with similar HP that's costing an arm and a leg. Had to though after the 2008 truck we had went down. Renting a day cab is a lot less so we'll do that until we find a proper DD15 sleeper and then move this 48 inch back into the day cab lineup. If you're wondering why didn't we replace the rental sleeper first and then the day cabs, well we have several old day cabs out of emission compliance so they're a bigger priority because CARB has ramped up their inspections and they are starting to become unreliable all at the same time of course.
Our driver is home every 2 weeks and I've talked to him about it already. He understands what's going on.
And yeah we plan on doing some leasing but thats another story and for other upcoming work. At least its a good problem to have
