I checked air temp sensor. it is o.k. shop just let me know, that while one of them was on top of engine moving some wires, the fan kicked off. though they do not know which wire, or wires. they told me, it was the wires that go from the fan solenoid across the front of engine to top of engine to sensor in thermostat housing. so I am leaning towards a ground wire rubbing somewhere in that area. they will try to track down the exact cause & let me know by tomorrow. I told them, I don't want to get in my truck & have it work for a day or 2 & then go back to the same problem. even though they got fan to stay off, I want them to find & fix the problem. so I wont have this happen again. now I think, man I could of wiggled some wires & maybe found this myself ??
but I didn't. still may be more to it too. well see. I will post back here in a day or so as to the prognosis. thanks for all the advice, printed out opinions & gave to shop, cause of yesterday they had no idea what to do next.

I had this problem and ended up being the trianary switch on the a/c dryer mine has a red dot a/c system hope this is of some help?
heavyhaulerss Thanks this. -
the air temp sensor should be in the center of the head on the drivers side two wire plug on it maybe three. if you are running your heater on defrost it will kick the fan in even if the a c is not working . try turning your heat control to floor or some where other than defrost see if it kicks out

Well I got truck back today. shop said they could not find anything wrong with it.
they spend a lot of time, moving wires, taking sensors off, checking all connections, & they said the fan started to work properly. does not come on like before, but with manual switch it will. they did not charge me anything. on the drive home, I had no problem with fan, however the dash water temp gauge needle was jumping back & forth very sporadic, between 200 & 210 degrees. this was not happening before I dropped truck off. I called shop. they don't know what caused it, maybe all the wires they moved around & sensors. they have no clue as what to do. I checked the 2 wires going to the sensor on the thermostat housing, that sends the signal to the gauge & moved those 2 wires every which way, does not make a difference. I do notice that when driving & when on acceleration, the needle moves much more than when coasting. I dont know it it is a hot or ground causing this. so from one problem fixed, for now to another one created.

air leak on the fan hub itself or air leak between fan hub and selinoid? turn truck off take some water and spray it on the hose running from fan selinoid to fan hub . drain all the air out afterwards and see if u can turn the fan by hand if not then the fan hubs probably done and its bypassing a bit of air.
