At one time I think it did cost $300 for each authority. I really don't see why anyone would need but one type of authority.

When I got my Insurance the cost of 5 million over 1 million was not that great so I went with 5 million of public liability,in this day and time of sue happy lawyers after big trucks 1 million dollars doesnt go very far. Then you stand a chance to lose everything you have worked for,I just felt more comfortable having 5 million in public liability especially running 8 trucks with drivers of different degrees of expierence!!!! It made me sleep better at night!!!

I had a panic when I saw that my reinstated authority was 'contract', not common. Called FMCSA, not a problem, said there is really no difference now and has not been since ICC was disbanded, though I think that the only paying $300 for both is more recent.

Why didn't you have an Authority service company do all of this work for you?

Cost me either $70 or $80 for the reinstatement, and it was easy to do. I am a member of NASTC and they handle compliance and fuel taxes and all, but it was a piece of cake doing the reinstatement - just got the scare there for a moment when I saw 'contract'. Everything other than getting the actual reinstatement I ended up using a service. If just starting, best to go through OOIDA, NASTC or some other entity I think so you don't miss anything...and as I have driver(s), even more complicated, though I think even for one guy, you still need to make sure you have all your ducks in a row....

Is that UCR only for Indiana?

Everyone who has motor carrier authority must pay the UCR fee every year. UCR stands for Unified Carrier Registration. The cost depends on how many trucks run under your authority.

I got that part. I got a little confused because I saw it on the Indiana state website.
Another question is do you need to pay this fee before your authority is granted? Thanks.

You cannot file or pay the UCR fee without first having your authority.
