That is exactly the way it should be.A new driver will get more and better experience running shorter loads and the eastern seaboard.Challenger has lots of long runs for single drivers, west included but why should they give them to the new guys when they have many drivers that have been there 20 or more years that also started out doing short runs.Stick around and work your way up.Now days everyone seems to want to start at the top.

You seriously think that giving new drivers short east coast runs is tha way it should be?
That’s a good way to make them new drivers quit in a real hurry. The driver turnover rate is high enough as it is. The last thing you should do is send new drivers east. Companies just don’t do that. They give the new drivers longer runs in the beginning so they don’t quit in the first week.
Challenger does not hove long runs for solo drivers. That ended years ago. Solo drivers get nothing but short east coast runs no matter how long you’ve been working for them. If you think you’ll get nice midwest or west coast loads as a solo driver at Challenger, then go ahead and try them.
You will find out soon enough. I know 2 drivers that just quit driving for Challenger. They were lucky to get 4 days a week. Nothing but east coast loads 350-450 miles of NJ,NY,PA. Challenger likes to paint a pretty picture for new drivers in the first 2 months of employment and give longer runs west. The reality is you will be sitting in traffic on the New Jersey turnpike earning nothing.

You obviously have never worked for Challenger so don't believe everything you hear.I just recently retired from Challenger after 37 years with them as an O/O so I know a bit about how the place works and yes I do think the new guys should get the short east coast runs. Also lots of singles doing long runs including west and like I said these are guys that have been there many years , put in their time and earned that right, and believe me I started at the bottom also.We also started out doing east coast and short runs but stuck it out ,didn't quit and worked our way up.,Today's new breed wants to start at the top ,work 40 hrs a week and be home every weekend instead of putting in their time to earn the right for better trips. If they quit because they don't like it well it's no great loss. They would rather keep the long term dependable drivers around and not see them leave by pissing them off if they were to give the new guys all the good freight.

Good Companies will want at least 2 years of experience. Unfortunately, there are a a lot of illegal ones operating that probably don't care. Usually, trucking schools like good Colleges help to establish job placements like Schenider used to but they are no longer in Canada.

3k to get my license from a trucking school that FGM truck lines in bolton ran . but no one would hire me because of where i went . I then had to pay another $3500 to crossroads in barrie for what they call a refresher course that schneider was supposed to reimburse which never happened. Yes i lost money but it was what i had to do if i wanted to get hired and get my experience. This was back in 2008 by the way . I also failed schneider’s physical test the first time and had to go to a gym and have help building strength in my knees and back . My problem with their test was not keeping my back straight when bending with having to lift a milk crate with weights
