I just go to bed 7-8 hours before I need to get up. Even if you don't sleep you will still get rest and recovery for your body. Since going on the CPAP machine I have found this easier to do. No matter what time of day If I put that machine on I will fall asleep.

In this situation, I would go for a large glass of warm milk and a good book. Whenever I needed to sleep "out of schedule", I have found that reading a book that I have read before will help me relax enough to get some good sleep.
