Alright I did all that today but I couldnt seem to scrap the coating off the mirror. Still nothing coming in. Would the coating on the mirror keep me from receiving anything?

Do you have your RF gain all the way up and squelch also open? Can't think of a reason you wouldn't be hearing anything. Try a different Radio and see what happens.
-
Yes gain and squelch is set.. ill try to hook my old radio back up to the current setup and see what happens then.

If the plastic insulator is missing from between the antenna stud and the mount you could burn up your radio. That insulator separates the antenna ( input and output ) from the ground. Look at a diagram to get the correct placement of the plastic insulator before keying up anymore....not good. Its the same difference as not having an antenna at all.
-
Yep what you said sounds right to me the antenna must be insulated from the mount .
-
You going to need something besides the stock mic.also, but the washer is your problem now.Gen.Lee's squeal with the stock mic.You will have one of the best radios for a truck once you get lined out.Gen Lee and Connex 3300HP are hard to beat.

I have an astatic mic hooked to it.. I have the plastic insulator on it too.. Im thinking it might be the ground for the antenna since the mirror is powdercoated.

do you have a ohm meter ?
